Tonight, we'll carry a basket of pumpkin buns up to the Spindle House, where a kind old clockmaker is waiting for the stars to come out.

Nell works at the bakery in Cobbleford, and every Halloween the old clockmaker on the hill orders a dozen pumpkin buns. The rain comes on as she climbs, so Master Aldous asks her in to wait it out. They drink tea beside a brass orrery that turns all on its own. When the rain stops, the copper dome on the roof opens to the stars. Nothing much happens. The house settles, and Nell falls asleep under a star chart.

There's gentle clockwork magic here: bottles that shine a soft sea green on the stair, a small brass helper who makes the tea, and a rain bottle that goes still when the shower passes. This is a cosy Halloween, not a scary one, told in a calm, slow voice. The story and the sleep affirmations last about 37 minutes, and soft music carries on for about three hours in all. At 11 minutes the screen fades to black, so the room stays dark while you sleep.
