Tonight, we'll ride an old night train through the autumn rain in the hills of Vermont, carrying a young man home for Thanksgiving to a small inn that stands beside the platform at Alder Station.
It's the night before Thanksgiving. Daniel rides the slow train north, watches the rain on the window, and drinks tea in the old dining car as the valley lights slide by. Walter, the conductor, wakes him just before Alder, where his aunt Bea has the kettle on at the Station Inn. Nothing much happens. The rain softens on the roof, and Daniel falls asleep before the family gathers tomorrow.
A calm, unhurried Thanksgiving story about travelling home and the small things we're thankful for. The story and the sleep affirmations last about 35 minutes, and soft music carries on after that for about three hours in all, so you can drift off without touching your phone. At 11 minutes the screen fades to black, so the room stays dark while you sleep.
