00:13I really hope the new O-Rings that they use for these figures aren't going to be subject to decay.
00:17Here's your look at the brand new Super 7 Visionaries, Knights of the Magical Light, Darkling Lord's Leader, Darkstorm.
00:28The fight for Magical Light carries on.
00:31Darkstorm, the corrupt leader of the Darkling Lords in Visionaries, Knights of the Magical Light from 1987, wishes to imprison
00:35the power of the Spectral Knights for all of eternity.
00:38And now he's here to enter your collection as a reaction figure.
00:40This 4-inch scale action figure with 14 points of articulation is highly poseable and comes with a number of
00:46accessories.
00:47Holographic magic in the form of a holographic sticker reveals his slimy swamp mollusk, mystical personality on his chest, and
00:54on his staff he bears the Totem of Decay.
00:56Summon this Visionaries' reaction figure to your collection now.
00:59I almost really found it was strange that Merkling would trust Darkstorm with more power,
01:03concerning, really, that Darkstorm would be willing to steal the Sorceress' power for himself.
01:08Before we get a closer look at Darkling Lord's Leader, Darkstorm, let's first take the tape measure and see how
01:13tall the figure's going to stand.
01:14If you have been following along the exploits of this humbled reviewer, you know that we've already had a look
01:19at Leoric, Leader of the Spectral Knights.
01:22Now, of course, we're going to be looking at the flip side of that and the other team.
01:25I hope, though, that this isn't going to be the end of the Spectral Knights, nor the Darkling Lords, and
01:29that Super 7 have plans,
01:31because they haven't really had a very successful history with some of the licenses that they've picked up in the
01:37past.
01:37As for, though, the past, I guess we really should be focused on the future.
01:40Here, Darkling Lord's Darkstorm stands three and three quarters of an inch.
01:45That's going to work out to be a figure that's nine centimeters tall.
01:48I still have the 80s Darkstorm, so as you can see for comparison, there is considerably a size difference between
01:53the two figures,
01:54as was also the case when we also looked at Leoric, that they seem to have shrunk down the size
02:01on what now would be the retro O-ring figures.
02:04It's strange, really, that, again, like, they're doing these as O-ring figures, and yet, though,
02:08you would think that they would also have made them the same size as the original 80s toys, but clearly,
02:13as is the case, that's not the case at all.
02:15Another valid argument as to why you'd want to keep these figures still sealed inside of their package card is
02:20just that the card is so good on these.
02:22Now, really, we, again, only have two figures from this first wave.
02:25Leoric from the Spectral Knights, Darkling Lord, Darkstorm, now that we're looking at in second review.
02:30Um, I don't know, is that the face, really, of what a mollusk would look like?
02:34Mollusks are generally just large, oversized snails, but I guess, based at least on the artwork, that's what a mollusk
02:40would look like.
02:40Those things looked gross when you saw them from far enough away.
02:44I like, also, that the package art looks very much like the original 80s card, as well.
02:49What's also featured, too, like the original 80s card, is that they also have a file card that you can
02:53snip out carefully with a pair of snips.
02:56Unfortunately, though, once again, we're reminded that Super 7 have omitted altogether the summons speech.
03:02Because with all of these figures, at least the ones that would have had the staffs, you would have had
03:06a summons.
03:06The summons, though, for Darkstorm would have been that of decay.
03:10By what creeps, what crawls, by what does not.
03:12Let all that grows, recede, and rot.
03:16Why is that nowhere on here?
03:17I mean, yeah, they give a background, a brief synopsis of his personality.
03:22For Darkstorm, they also give, as well, a description for the mollusk.
03:25They give it, also, for the totem.
03:27And yet, no mention could they...
03:29I'm sure they could have easily made these slightly smaller fonts, so that they could have still squeezed in there
03:34the summons.
03:35What's interesting, also, about Darkstorm is he's the only character from the Visionaries cartoon that does actually technically have two
03:41summons.
03:41He has a summons to turn someone to decay, and then he has the reverse spell of that, power of
03:46rot, obscuring truth, what once was old, restore to youth.
03:51He sort of does break the rules, then.
03:53He doesn't have to necessarily go back to Merklin right away.
03:55Now, based on that, though, would that mean Darkstorm technically could use his decay twice?
04:00Or does it have to automatically be a decay summons and then a reverse summons?
04:04And if he just doesn't use the reverse summons, he just loses the second summons altogether.
04:10Does anybody really care?
04:10I care.
04:11What I also care about the fact is that with all of the accessories for Darkstorm, they are literally just
04:16shrunk-down versions.
04:17This is the original 80s axe that came included with Darkstorm.
04:20Kind of looks a little like a toucan.
04:23This would just be a smaller version of that.
04:25It's a little bit different of a gold.
04:27Same kind of design, just a little bit, again, smaller.
04:30Because, again, everything on these figures are going to be smaller than the original 80s toy.
04:34Darkstorm does also come include the backpack, which this guy forgot to actually take off the back of his body.
04:41Get off, get off, get off.
04:42The backpack quite securely attaches onto the hole on the back of the torso.
04:47The backpack is a little bit different, though, than Leoric's.
04:50And the idea in mind was it's also supposed to be able to hold the staff.
04:54Now, I have noticed, though, with Darkstorm that the staff that he comes included with,
04:59which, again, is smaller than the original one.
05:01Here's the original Staff of Decay.
05:04Very similar of a design.
05:06But, again, one thing that's unfortunately been left off here...
05:09I'm just hoping, again, the light's going to be able to catch it.
05:11There we go.
05:12Decay was sort of a...
05:14I don't know what you would call it, like a griffon gargoyle.
05:17But when they did summon it, it would flicker back and forth between two respected symbols.
05:22With the Spectral Knights, it was usually a unicorn, and then it was the main summons.
05:27When it came, though, to the Darkling Lords, it was usually then a dragon,
05:31and it would flip back and forth between a dragon and the summons.
05:35So, as he was saying it, it would flicker back and forth, which was really cool.
05:39The new staffs don't have that, though.
05:41What it only just really has is there's the summons of decay,
05:45which, again, doesn't look that much different, really, than the original one.
05:48But it doesn't flicker.
05:50And I think that sucks.
05:52If you are going to be doing this, we've advanced far enough, I feel, in holographic technology.
05:57Could they not have maybe found a way just to not have a flickering effect piece the same way?
06:02I mean, I know it's a budget thing, but, I mean, this did it, right?
06:06Could it not have done the exact same thing on this one?
06:09Here's another problem I have with Darkstorm.
06:12That backpack that we just looked at has a little clip on the back.
06:16And with Leoric, Leoric's held the staff perfectly fine.
06:21I can't help but notice, though, that if you look at Darkstorm's,
06:23his clip is wider than Leoric's, which you can probably already now piece together
06:29the problem that's going to be facing this figure.
06:31He doesn't hold the staff.
06:33The staff does not sit inside the clip, and it doesn't stay in the clip.
06:36And I thought, okay, maybe it's going to hold the axe.
06:40No, it doesn't hold the axe either.
06:42Out of package, without doing anything to correct it and fix it,
06:45I probably could have just heated this in hot water,
06:47but to tell you guys, though, immediately, when you get this out of the packaging,
06:50there's no way that he's going to be able to hold the staff at least on the back of his
06:54body,
06:55which just, again, plugs in place like that.
06:57So, again, like if you take the staff,
06:59the only thought that I may have is with the staff not fitting,
07:04if you put the staff against the clip, right?
07:07Follow me along here.
07:08And then you clip it against his body.
07:11It's only just by the fact that it's so close to his body that it stays in place.
07:15That's the only way that this staff is going to stay there.
07:18And even then, it sits really loose.
07:20So, as you are putting it on the back of the figure's body,
07:23as you can see, it's going to slide straight through.
07:26So, it holds, I suppose, theoretically,
07:29but I feel like maybe that clip should have been a little bit tighter just on the back.
07:34One last thing that comes included also with Darkstorm.
07:36If I just get now this off his body.
07:39Maybe we'll just keep the backpack on there.
07:42Clip it right there.
07:43Darkstorm, of course, also comes included with his helmet.
07:46Now, I feel really with Darkstorm, too.
07:48There's very few times in the episodes, I feel, where he's actually wearing the helmet.
07:51The helmet, by the way, this was the original helmet for Darkstorm.
07:57Colors also, by the way, are a little bit more closer to the cartoon.
08:00The original Darkstorm kind of had more of the colors, I think,
08:02in like a greenish teal color.
08:04This is definitely a little bit more accurate to the cartoon.
08:07And here, by the way, is the Darkstorm, the original 80s Darkstorm.
08:10The helmet, as big as it may be, fit over the top of the face like that.
08:15I have had, actually, a couple of visionary figures.
08:18I was going to say Inhuman Horns.
08:19That's another 80s toy line.
08:21I've had, actually, a couple of visionaries' toys that have had scraped paint on the fronts of their faces.
08:25Just because, again, like when you are putting on the helmet,
08:28it's pretty close in quarters to the face.
08:31But that's what he looks like with the helmet on.
08:32I don't know, though, if I'd end up doing the same here with Darkstorm.
08:36Technically, he does have the means to wear his helmet.
08:38The helmet seems also like it's a softer plastic, kind of rubbery plastic.
08:42But it sits still pretty close to his face.
08:46Getting it off of his face, again, my worry would be that that's going to eventually start to scrape the
08:50paint off.
08:50And also with Darkstorm, too, I think it's definitely one of the better faces of the two that we get.
08:56Just, again, we'll take off the helmet for Leoric so you guys can see the differences between the two.
09:01He was voiced in the cartoon.
09:02The figure, by the way, I'm pointing at Darkstorm was voiced in the cartoon by Chris Lata.
09:07Chris Lata would also do, was it Cravex?
09:10Cravex?
09:11Which also, many people probably would know Chris Lata from also doing the voice of Cobra Commander and G.I.
09:16Joe
09:16and Starscream from Transformers.
09:18He had, I would say, probably one of the more normal voices when he was voicing that of Darkstorm.
09:23I love Darkstorm in the cartoon.
09:25And he just, he looks the part.
09:27Although, again, like, he's very small.
09:29When you compare him against with the original Darkstorm, there is quite a size difference between the two.
09:34Which means that when eventually they release a Verilina and a Galadria, that they aren't going to be scale.
09:40I know we kind of talked about this when we also looked at Leoric.
09:43That when eventually, I hope that they release those two characters, because they never got the original 80s treatment.
09:48They are going to be notably smaller.
09:51I also did want to bring in one of the vehicles.
09:53There's just not enough space, really, to accommodate the dagger assault.
09:56But I brought in right now, I just took the gun turret off.
09:59Here's the Skyclaw, one of my all-time favorite 80s vehicles.
10:03I know, again, we've kind of done a review of this.
10:05This obviously pops out.
10:06You've got a little cannon there on the front.
10:08Just make sure this sits inside the nose cone.
10:12And also, these two opened up as well.
10:14I know, again, like, we've kind of done the review of that.
10:15If you guys want to see what that looks like.
10:17Again, these would always kind of be popping out.
10:20While I also have this, too, I want to show you guys, where's the staff here for Darkstorm?
10:25It doesn't fit inside here.
10:28Unfortunately, though, while it being a slightly smaller staff, it doesn't fit inside of this because of, well, the end
10:35of it, the little knob that it has, doesn't really allow this to fit inside at least these storage places.
10:41Whereas the original staff, because it doesn't have that on the bottom of it, you could still slide that straight
10:47through.
10:49Now, based at least on that, you could say, well, at least it's a cartoon-accurate staff.
10:54Maybe it is, but it comes at, though, unfortunately, the price that this little point at the bottom of it
10:59doesn't now allow it to fit inside of vehicles, which really sucks.
11:04I guess it is, unfortunately, a trade-off.
11:06The trade-off means that it's a better, more accurate-looking staff the way it looks in the cartoon, but
11:10it's just not going to really work with the vehicles.
11:12Speaking of things that work with vehicles, I'm just going to bend the knees here for Darkstorm and have him
11:17sitting.
11:17I know normally he would not be sitting in, I think it's mortar that sits in the front there, but
11:22he could technically sit inside the cockpit.
11:24And, you know, while looking at this, I had that same feeling that when we looked at the Capture Chariot,
11:29Leoric fit fine.
11:30I don't think that they're too undersized to sit inside of, like, the vehicles themselves.
11:35I don't think necessarily I would look at this and think that this Darkstorm doesn't really belong with the Visionaries'
11:39vehicle.
11:40You can also, again, a lot of times he was usually on the top here, which there are pegs right
11:44there on the top.
11:45You could technically attach Darkstorm there to the top.
11:48And, you know, again, like, I don't think sizing is that much off.
11:51It's only really more of a difference when you see it next to the other, you know, the other original
11:5580s toys of the Visionaries.
11:57For Darkstorm's articulation, it's very much the same as, well, the original ones, and then also Leoric.
12:03The head's going to be...
12:04The way it sort of works, if you were to take these apart, and my guess would be...
12:10Let me just take off the backpack right here, yeah.
12:12Like with Leoric, the screw holes on the back.
12:14So, eventually, though, if it is the case that the overing does deteriorate over time,
12:21you would likely be able to unscrew it on the back of the torso, just take the two halves off,
12:25replace the overing, put the two halves back on.
12:29But with G.I. Joes, though, and it would be also the same with Visionaries,
12:32the way that the heads work, that they sort of sit inside of, like, a ledge.
12:36It's a cup like this.
12:37The head would sit on side.
12:39So, if, like, my hand is like the head, it would sit inside sort of a, like a, I don't
12:44know, like a half-circle cup.
12:47Because of that, though, the head doesn't really ever have good posability.
12:50It only really moves back and forth, and I feel like, really, like, Super 7's pretty much done the same
12:54thing here.
12:55Darkstorm's head, unlike Leoric, isn't loose.
12:58I don't know why Leoric's was as loose as it was.
13:00Darkstorm doesn't seem to be having as much of that issue.
13:03But the head only just marginally moves.
13:05The arms also hinge out, forward and back.
13:07There is a swivel, right here, right above, kind of, the elbow bend.
13:12And speaking of the elbow bends, there's also one there as well.
13:14Top of the torso, because it's all going to be attached by an O-ring,
13:17I mean, gives you the motions and the movements that an O-ring would usually give you.
13:22Legs do split, and you can kind of see the way that they're attached in place.
13:25Just forward and back on the legs.
13:27A little bit of a swivel, not much there.
13:29And there's also a hinge in the knees.
13:31By the way, too, also like Leoric, there's the peg holes on the bottom of the figure's feet.
13:35So if you wanted to, you can also attach these onto display stands,
13:38which really, again, like, these figures don't come include display stands.
13:41I do wish, though, and this is something I mentioned in the review of Leoric.
13:45Once the last time here, we'll also bring back in the original 80s Darkstorm.
13:50Maybe take off the helmet, too.
13:52What sells this line for me isn't the scale.
13:55I mean, if you're looking for these to scale and size, you can be disappointed,
13:58because, again, like, clearly you can see they're, what, a third the height of the original 80s toys?
14:04If you have no problems with that at all, the one benefit of these figures is that at least they
14:08look more like the cartoon.
14:10I think Darkstorm really is the better of the two figures.
14:12Not that there was really anything wrong necessarily with Leoric.
14:15I just think that Darkstorm does look better.
14:18Everything, though, on the figure is shrunk down in size.
14:20One thing, though, that they have also shrunk, it seems, is the budget.
14:23Because, again, like with these staffs, I can just get this to flicker back and forth.
14:28Decay is there, and it's fine.
14:30It looks sharper, it looks crisper, but, unfortunately, he doesn't have the secondary flickering image of the dragon.
14:36I don't know, again, why that was left off.
14:37And, again, like, weirdly, though, with Darkstorm, he doesn't actually have a clip that supports his staff.
14:44The staff just, I mean, short of it just resting like that, I mean, that's maybe, I guess it survives
14:50if you have it all the way down like this.
14:53Maybe that's the way it's supposed to be.
14:55If you have it a little bit further up, though, I mean, it's just going to slide out of the
14:58clip.
14:59But I don't know why.
15:00I mean, I feel like maybe I'm going to have to go in there and heat this up with hot
15:03water just to make the clip a little bit more narrow.
15:07Without running risks of potentially breaking that off in the process, they still scale with vehicles, which is good.
15:12So, if you have the Skyclaw and you have the Dagger Assault, they seem like they're not too undersized for
15:18the vehicles.
15:20If you're not bothered that they aren't the same size as these, they are good.
15:23I feel like they could have been better, though.
15:25So, seeing the way that Darkstorm's staff sort of sat against the backpack clip, I decided to actually find a
15:32place to store the axe when, of course, he's not got it displayed in his hand.
15:36It is, again, only resting by the top of the pack.
15:38So, it's not going to stay really securely, but I guess if it's close enough to his body, maybe that's
15:44why the Super 7 designed it the way that they did.
15:47The staff has to really sit far enough down there to stay in place.
15:50But, again, it's also very close to his body anyways.
15:54Maybe that's the logic that they had when it came to designing it.
15:57I don't really like that myself.
15:58I'm still going to probably heat, likely, the clip up and see if I can just kind of bend it
16:03a little bit more so it's going to hold it a little bit better than it is right now.
16:07Darkstorm, I think, is one of the better-looking of the two figures.
16:10Head sculpt-wise, I think it looks more like Darkstorm from the cartoon.
16:13Not necessarily that Leoric was a bad figure.
16:16Leoric also, something I didn't mention in the review for him,
16:19there was technically a convention-exclusive Leoric that came out that was the same size, I believe, as the G
16:24.I. Joe's.
16:25It came out, I think, with Jetstorm.
16:26It came out with a couple of other things that were known to being like the Sun Bows series cartoons.
16:31So, we did already get a Leoric.
16:33At one point, I did want to try to get one off of eBay, but the prices were just way
16:37too stupid and crazy.
16:39Darkstorm, this is now the first time that we're getting the character again, since the original 80s toys got released.
16:45Are they better-looking figures? Yes.
16:47Do they look more like the cartoons? Absolutely.
16:49But, again, I don't know why Super 7 chose to shrunk the sizing down.
16:53Something, though, I mentioned when we looked at the Leoric,
16:56with G.I. Joe's that they've also done, the retro O-ring Joe's,
17:01they, I think, have made them the same size as normal G.I. Joe's.
17:05So, the whole idea in mind is that you're filling in gap spaces.
17:08Why have they not done this, then, for the Visionaries?
17:10Because you would think, though, anybody that's already collected the Visionaries' toys,
17:14ones from the 80s, likely would then look at this and think,
17:17okay, this is perfect. When they eventually release a Galadria and they do a Verilina,
17:22I can then have those figures displayed with the ones that I have from the 80s.
17:26And it doesn't seem to really be the case, unless, strangely, though,
17:30they just end up making those two characters out of everybody else,
17:32of the Spectral Knights and the Darkling Lords,
17:34they just happen to make Galadria and Verilina taller than everybody else.
17:39Yes, we know that that's not going to be the case.
17:41What is the case, though, is that both of these figures are available right now,
17:44either online. Some stores also seem to have stocked these, too.
17:47I haven't had any luck to find these in the stores.
17:49I had, though, was able to find these on Big Bad Toy Store.
17:53That's where I ended up getting these. They were $24.99 apiece.
17:56For that price, they're not super expensive,
17:59and at least it also would probably be the nudge that you need
18:01to get a second one of these, a second set of these,
18:03because the artwork is so good on them,
18:04you'd likely want to keep one set loose
18:07and one set still sealed inside of their plastic prison.
18:10What do you guys think of the Super 7 Visionary figures?
18:13Let me know down below in the comments section.
18:14Does it, again, bother you at all that these are off in size?
18:18You wish that they were more in the same size and in the same scale
18:21as the previous ones from the 80s?
18:23It doesn't really bother you at all,
18:25because maybe you never even had the original 80s toys,
18:27you're starting from scratch.
18:28And this, you know, if you were to be starting from scratch,
18:31it's a good scratch to start with.
18:34What?
18:35If you guys did enjoy this video,
18:37please, of course, do it with a solid and hit it with a like.
18:39And if you guys want to also follow me over on socials,
18:41stalk me on socials,
18:42you can find all those linkages down below in the video description.
18:46If you also need a fix for more video content,
18:48of course, there's going to be a spot for that.
