00:20knight leader laoric amid the castle spires and towers of new valeric the spectral knights vowed

00:37leader of the spectral knights from the visionaries knights of the magical light 1987 cartoon is here
00:41as a reaction figure to defend your collection this four-inch scale figure has 12 points of
00:46articulation is highly poseable and comes with a number of accessories holographic magic in the
00:51form of holographic sticker reveals his courageous line mystical personality on his chest and on his
00:56staff he bears the totem of wisdom summon the visionary reaction figure to your collection now
01:02leader laoric may possess the staff of wisdom but what super 7 may be wise with some of the choices
01:07that they made for this brand new visionaries line we're gonna be answering that over the course of
01:10this review first things first though let's grab the tape measure and see how tall the figure's gonna
01:14stand i can tell you right away one of my big problems right away with this line is the fact
01:18that the figures are way too small and you'll see in a second why i say that for how tall
01:22laoric's
01:23gonna be though you're looking at the figure being yeah three and three quarters in size and that's
01:27going to translate to a figure that's about nine centimeters tall well three and three quarters
01:30doesn't seem so small well it does seem small the moment you bring in the original 80s laoric and
01:35you have the two standing side by side you could say to the credit of super 7 that the new
01:40laoric does
01:41have more of a cartoon accurate look to them but it comes unfortunately at a price that the figure
01:45is just way too small if you have plans to display them with the original 80s toys i haven't done
01:49it
01:49yet my plans are to pick up a second set of the visionaries wave one figures which right now only
01:54does consist of laoric and dark storm just so i could still keep them sealed inside of their plastic
01:59prisons the packaging on these are phenomenal i do like the way that they've actually got first of
02:03all the totems in the background of each of the characters so of course laoric is represented by the lion
02:07and then on the back of the car they actually do have a cardboard cutout file the same way though
02:13that the 80s toy had that also as well the one thing though while liking the fact that the card
02:18is
02:18there does also show you the characters down below as well one thing it's lacking though is it doesn't
02:23actually have the summons it makes mention of the fact that he has both the totem and he also has
02:28the
02:29the staff of wisdom but what it comes unfortunately though is missing he doesn't actually have the
02:34summons itself whispered secrets of a shattered age i summon you renew this sage the original file
02:39cards i believe did have those unfortunately though it's omitted all together on the new releases
02:44that would be one of the coolest features though about the cartoon was the fact that they had the
02:48summons that as kids you would cite off the summons the same time as them as they of course projected
02:53out their their powers and yet though unfortunately super seven chose not to include that on the back of
02:58their card i do like the look of laoric i like that it has a read-up about him but
03:02again it
03:03needed to have the summons there as well and dark storm doesn't seem to have his there either
03:06by the way there's dark storm listed down below as well as the other two one of the other two
03:10figures
03:11from wave one this by the way was about 24.99 over on big bad toy store not a bad
03:17price really
03:17considering all the accessories that come include with the laoric we're also going to be kind of doing
03:21a comparison between the original 80s toy and then the new spectral lineslay orc just so you guys can
03:27see the differences between the two maybe what we'll do starting first is looking at his whip
03:32everything on this is smaller smaller than the previous figures i mean again like if you look
03:37at originally laoric's whip it was a much longer whip and it seemed to have a lot more flexibility
03:43to it this new whip while it does have some bending features to it it just it doesn't feel
03:48like it's as soft of a plastic well the original one probably would have been more of a rubber plastic
03:52anyways this feels like by the way i'm bending it like it would eventually develop stress marks i don't
03:58think that that's probably going to be the case but just as i'm kind of moving the whip around
04:02it just doesn't feel like it has as much flexibility to it this can be held in laoric's
04:07hands the figure does benefit at least by having two gripping hands you probably can already see
04:12the hand that i've used the most when it comes to him holding the whip because these thumbs frequently
04:17get bent in and i'm sure it's going to be a trend that you're going to see continue go ahead
04:23and take
04:23the whip fit the whip inside his hands now i may have made also the mistake of trying to force
04:29that
04:29in on the side maybe just actually putting it in down the front would have made better sense
04:33so of course he does come include this whip as well there's no storage space necessarily on the
04:38back of his body he does technically come include the backpack which is one upgrade that he do like
04:43about the new super seven releases we'll just put the whip over to the side for right now
04:48um the one other thing of course that comes include laoric is his staff
04:53again while i do think that super seven has done a really good job on this line there is a
04:57few
04:58little stumbling things that i've noticed about it well for starters i mean hopefully it gets the
05:04camera to hit it just right there's the light there's the summons of of wisdom now one thing
05:10though unfortunately it doesn't have here's the original laoric staff which again is so much
05:15larger than the newer release but like in the cartoon though and again i'm hoping though that
05:19you guys can see it what the staff usually did whether again it was a darkling lord or if it
05:25was
05:25a spectral knight as they summoned whatever power they were using from the staff it would flicker back
05:31and forth and i'm just hoping again i can get the light just to hit that right there you go
05:36so you
05:37got the wisdom owl but then it would alternate between that and like a pegasus or unicorn
05:42and see how it changes between the unicorn and the owl that's cool unfortunately though the new
05:50staffs and the totems don't have that so again just to i don't know why the light's not really
05:56hitting this just right it only really does show there it is there's the owl it only shows the owl
06:02could they not maybe i mean if you're going to start getting into a license like this
06:06kind of follows same same of the form some of the same formulas that your original 80s toy would
06:11have had as well i mean i like that the owl's there but could it not have been the cell
06:16there
06:16that's perfect see how it flickers between the unicorn and the owl so again like as he said the
06:22summons whispered secrets of a shattered age i summon you renew this sage that owl always was useless
06:28it would come out and most of the time it would just speak riddles this the summons of knowledge
06:33always seemed to be make making more sense and i was kind of really thought why would not they have
06:37given these the summons of knowledge to laoric rather than the stupid owl that just again a lot
06:43of times spoke in riddles so again like there's the why again i'm not missing there we go so it
06:49goes
06:50from the owl goes from the owl to the unicorn this one doesn't have that why it doesn't have that
06:55i have
06:55no idea with the way that we've advanced in especially in holographic technology by now you would think
07:03okay here again i'm just getting this to hit just right there we almost got it you get the idea
07:09so
07:09he does have again the staff but the staff doesn't have the flickering between the two different
07:14symbols why i have no idea what i do like though at least is that this time around unlike the
07:20original
07:2080s toy they get actually backpacks so like in the cartoon and they could carry around the staffs when
07:26they weren't actually using them it was really a flaw also in the in the story writing of visionaries in
07:31the sense that every time they had to use the summoned staff they had to go back to merkeling
07:35and charge the staff again every single time could there not have been maybe one of the
07:39spectral knights and on the other side of that of course of the coin could there not have been a
07:42darkling lord that would have had just a summons to recharge literally and you just keep going back
07:48to the person to even like if galandria and and vilomena wilhelmina could they not have either had
07:54either one of them be the ones that recharge the staffs instead of always constantly going back to
07:59merkeling where were we going with this oh anyways by the way so the cool thing about the new visionaries
08:05toys is at least now they have a place to store their staffs so if for example you didn't want
08:09necessarily leoric we can go ahead and fit that into his hand so of course he can carry around the
08:16staff with him uh even though like the staff is smaller than the original 80s toy it's still a pretty
08:22big size when you compare it against the toy what you have now though is there's a hole on the
08:26back
08:27of their torsos and again you get the backpack here so the backpack clearly attaches into the
08:32hole on the back of the body that's simple shapes and then unfortunately though how this works
08:38there's not really enough space here see there's a clip the clip is really supposed to hold the staff
08:42well in order to get the staff on there you either can do one of two things take the backpack
08:47off first and the clip faces inward so it doesn't stick out so you have to take of course the
08:54staff
08:54of wisdom just attach it like that and then attach it onto the back of his body like that sometimes
09:00though as you are moving the figure around you'll notice that the staff pops out again one of the
09:05other things that you can also do too is just kind of move leoric's arms out of the way and
09:09put sort
09:09of the staff in from the back just like that it's not the most secure grip i mean all often
09:18as you
09:19kind of move the figure around you'll find that the staff does pop out but again like there can you
09:23see it there i i keep missing it it's like the snuffleupagus there it is right there the staff of
09:29wisdom stupid owl it never really did anything in the cartoon it was always just speaking in rhymes
09:35and riddles and leoric i mean half the time the audience couldn't even understand either what
09:40exactly the owl was saying anyways though let's go ahead and just take the staff off right now
09:46the backpack stays fairly securely in place but i wish the same could be said for the staff
09:52the last thing that also comes with leoric too is of course his helmet now before we actually put
09:56the helmet on i want to show you guys what the face sculpt looks like where i feel there are
10:01a few
10:01little things that i don't love about this new visionaries line i think the one thing that they
10:05have done well is making them fairly cartoon accurate here's the original leoric as tall as
10:10he may be i mean like look out look at the size difference between the new super seven visionaries
10:15and the original ones now with the original staff the totems i should say there's the lion on the front
10:22of leoric's chest most of these have held up pretty well and these are like gi joe bodies so of
10:29course
10:29they're going to be the o-ring so eventually those will deteriorate over time the screw though for that if
10:34you ever want to need to change them out you would just unscrew the section right there so i'm not
10:37sticking my middle finger up right here the inverted though electrical plug outlet you would just
10:42unscrew the screw right there and and take the two halves of the body apart from one another to change
10:47out the o-ring but that's the original uh we looked at a couple of these actually when we looked
10:51at the
10:52vehicles but there is definitely a size difference between the two the colors look better on this one i think
10:56the head sculpt certainly does look better on leoric now what problem it has though also it also
11:02looks a little bit like roy kent i just saw that now it looks like roy kent
11:10from uh okay of course now now i'm drawing a blank oh it's gonna come to me roy kent
11:17oh this talk's really raspy
11:21i'm drawing a blank now anyways though the one thing i did want to say is that unfortunately the
11:26the head is very loose not sure really why it's as loose as it is
11:32if you move like the head kind of back like this it seems to stay pretty good in place
11:36the moment though ted lasso thank you for the person that was screaming not so loud
11:40screaming at the camera um but yeah if you move the head forward on roy kent here
11:45the head is loose i don't know why really it has to be as loose as it is if you
11:49kind of tilt the head
11:50back a little bit then the head seems to be not as bad now of course you can take yourself
11:55the helmet
11:56the helmet is more of a softer plastic here's the uh here's the original helmet from leoric
12:02which was a much harder plastic a lot of times with these older toys you'd find yourself scraping
12:06off a lot of the paint now i the paint is still okay here on leoric which doesn't at all
12:11really look
12:11like the cartoon it's a mustached guy that's about all it really is does it look like roy kent from
12:15ted lasso no it no it doesn't he just takes it off the helmet put that then in place and
12:20with this
12:21one the helmet looks a lot more like the cartoon that just fits again over the top of his head
12:25like
12:25that it's not bad not bad at all now of course his summons his totem there's in the front of
12:32his
12:32chest there is his lion when i first heard that super seven was and you probably can already see how
12:38passionate i am about visionaries i love visionaries as a kid i love the toys but when i first heard
12:43that
12:43super seven was going to be getting the license of visionaries i probably like many people thought
12:48immediately that they were going to be doing ultimates and i thought wow that's going to be
12:51amazing imagine if there had been for example like a large pack case where you get yourself your figure
12:56and then you get yourself the summons or in in this case like the staff summons or even again like
13:01the
13:01totem summons either one of those so if he had come included like the little blue lion and maybe even
13:07less stupid owl those would all be fun things that could come include with these figures
13:11unfortunately though by only really relegating this line to three and three quarter and so far
13:14the only thing that we're really actually getting for this line is just the weapons and the staff
13:18and again and now a brand new backpack but i would love to have they included as well the totems
13:24even if you couldn't include the summons had it maybe include the little lions you know again it
13:29would be like the little blue line that we could display on the shelf along with laoric
13:32despite being a smaller figure though actually the one other thing i want to do too is bring in one
13:37of the
13:37vehicles this just happens to be the capture chariot oh yeah i'm just looking right now for the other
13:43hovering pod but if you guys certainly did want to see do these vehicles fit well or i should say
13:48probably the other way around do these figures now fit well with the older original visionaries toys
13:53now just to take one of the floating pods here which again had the this has worn over time
13:59unfortunately if we take laoric and we can obviously bring his legs forward bend his knees
14:05bring out his arms like that i will say they fit pretty well with the vehicles
14:11not to the point where i'm looking at this and i'm thinking myself like that's too small
14:15like that doesn't really belong to this character i feel like it actually fits pretty well with this
14:20line so even though technically if they were to release a galadria or a verulina which i said earlier
14:26with the wrong name had they released both of those because again like we never got those original 80s
14:30toys as figures you couldn't say like you could have not picked up just those two figures and have
14:35them displayed with your original 80s visionaries it just wouldn't work they'd be way too small but
14:40if you kind of start this line with only collecting like the super 7 stuff with a small size that
14:44they
14:45are they could still technically fit with the vehicles because i think there'd probably be a
14:48very high unlikelihood that super 7 would ever release vehicles for the visionaries line they
14:53probably just aren't going to do that so if you have the original 80s visionaries toys the vehicles
14:57more so than anything else technically the figures will fit those and also too we can take
15:02leoric even though really pharaoh would be really the one that would be commanding and controlling
15:07the capture chariot technically he does also fit inside the cockpit too so these vehicles i think also
15:16just happen to have it over here this thing keeps falling apart on me but i've got the spectral knights
15:23lancer cycle which yeah always falls apart though the front of it always comes loose on me
15:28but technically too even though again this isn't really the designed place for leoric to stay
15:34you could also put him inside the lancer cycle and it fits okay if it doesn't fit all that bad
15:40i
15:41when i first saw the size differences between these and the original 80s toys i thought immediately oh
15:45there's no way that they're going to fit the vehicles but in actual fact they do just kind of
15:50moving everything out of the way for leoric's articulation it really isn't that much different from
15:54the original 80s toy with that though despite unfortunately having a loose head roy kent's head
16:00does rotate back and forth it probably would be a lot easier just to remove the helmet back and forth
16:05up and down because again he also has the benefit of the overing the overing does move forward and
16:10back while the torso because the overing does move forward and back up and down the arms hinge out
16:15forward and back there is a swivel here in the elbow bend in the elbow there as well
16:20the hands don't rotate but because again they rotate here that's where all your posability is
16:24going to be leg split and they're basically just constructed the same way as three and three
16:29quarter inch gi joe forward and back on the legs bend at the knees oh by the way too they
16:34also have
16:34pegels in the bottoms of their feet as well so if you wanted to make use of a display stand
16:38you could
16:38make use of a display stand how do i feel about this line well you know again like when i
16:43first heard
16:43that super seven had acquired the visionaries i don't know just ideas started to burn my head i
16:49thought to myself okay what's the chances what are the chances that they're going to be releasing an
16:53ultimate line of that that they could include the summons they could include the totems packed along
16:58with the figures kind of in the same way that they did with the old faded simpsons line in the
17:02end
17:03though we're kind of just essentially getting three and three quarter inch card figures which again are
17:07smaller than the original why is this guy not standing well which again like to display them along with the
17:13rest of your original 80s visionaries it just isn't going to work they're not the right size
17:17so again like for those that kind of thought to themselves initially maybe you were thinking oh
17:21okay well along the lines of well we're finally going to get a galadria we're also going to get a
17:25verulina the sizes of those figures just isn't going to work unless you know again you don't mind the
17:30fact that verulina and galadria are going to be notably smaller than the 80s visionaries toys
17:36everything really on the figures are smaller so again you get the smaller staff versus the larger staff
17:40you get the tiny little whip versus the much larger whip if this is i would say like a size
17:46that
17:46you don't mind and if you're starting from scratch and you have no plans to necessarily fill in gaps
17:52for the original 80s visionaries then i think you're going to be set i like the look of the figures
17:57there
17:57are a few little things that i don't love so much about them i guess really if it wasn't so
18:01much the
18:02fact that they had to size class them to these guys and if i was only just solely looking at
18:06them on
18:06their own the one only really complaint i could probably make other than just yeah i just wish
18:10that they could have thrown in extra little goodies was though that the staff as stupid as a staff it
18:16may be why doesn't it not flicker it should really alternate and again i don't know really what the
18:21cost of producing holograms would be clearly i'm just the guy that's reviewing the toys but like why
18:26would they not have had an alternating hologram you know again they've done that though with the
18:30original 80s toys and we're talking toys that are 40 plus years old they did it with the original
18:3580s toys why would they have done it now with the ones released by super 7 you're seeking the
18:40wisdom on where you can find these new super 7 visionary figures for your collection space
18:45they are available right now you could either have gone maybe the route of super 7's website directly
18:50i just happened to have picked this on big bad toy store i had pre-ordered these a long time
18:54ago and
18:54finally got the announcement they were shipping out i'm happy now to have these but again it comes with
18:59a caveat unfortunately that the size class on these are way too small i haven't collected a lot of the
19:04retro o-ring gi joes that the ones that super 7 have now started to do as well i can't
19:09think that
19:10they're going to be smaller than regular joes because that would defeat the purpose altogether
19:14the whole idea with super 7 in mind was i figured they were doing this to fill in gaps especially
19:19with
19:19their joes for things that were found in maybe the movies or the episode they were deep cut characters
19:24but they could still fit well in your collections is it just the case that the visionaries the retro
19:29visionary overing figures are smaller for no other reason than with your saving cost why would they
19:35not have made them the same size as the original 80s toys because again i think a lot of people
19:40there were one half of the figures or one half the collectors that were probably looking at this new
19:44figure line thinking this is great i can get cartoon accurate characters the way that they look in the
19:49series they're going to have accurate looking staffs the summons are probably going to be looking
19:53better than they did before the holograms are going to look better than before and i think maybe yeah the
19:57holograms do look notably better but are they better really in the sense that they don't first of all
20:02they don't flicker back and forth between two images that's a big hit for me the staff i feel
20:08like how far along have we now come with technology on holograms why they did it in the 80s i
20:14know again
20:14it's just the budget thing why they did it in the 80s yet they couldn't have done it now with
20:17the
20:17staffs but i think too collectors that looked at this as an opportunity to finally get a galadria
20:23and a verulina would probably now be disappointed to find that these figures aren't going to scale
20:28at all with the original 80s you know with the original 80s visionaries they fit still well with
20:32the vehicles so that's a plus when we look at dark storm 2 i may not have the space to
20:38probably bring
20:38in the dagger assault but i'm going to bring in the sky claw and you'll see much like though the
20:42capture chariot the figures still fit size-wise pretty good with those vehicles that when you put
20:47them inside their cockpits wherever the cockpits may be they still look like they don't they're not
20:52small sized too small so that's at least a good thing but yeah if you wanted to have these on
20:58display with the rest of your 80s visionaries they're just going to come up way too short
21:01there are things i like about it the face sculpts are definitely an improvement the colors of their
21:06costumes look better like they did in the original series but why they had to be shorter is beyond me
21:12because again i feel like they're probably doing that with the deep cut characters from gi joe's they're
21:16making them the right size to other joes why they not would have done that the exact same for
21:20visionaries it's beyond me by the way as a side note too like was the owl maybe the stupidest
21:26worthless summons of all the visionaries i mean i think like again knowledge beat wisdom i would
21:33likely have ever gone to knowledge maybe as the first choice to find out what was going on and
21:37needed to plan instead of this these riddles that this stupid owl would always end up reciting to
21:42leoric and half the time it only gave them like one or two words and then the bird would disappear
21:47and of course they'd have to go back to merklin's lair again to recharge their staffs could there not
21:52have been maybe verulina maybe galadria could have had the the powers to recharge the staffs
21:58so that every side quest that they went on on behalf of merklin wasn't only there just so they
22:04could recharge their staffs again wow that was quite the tangent what do you guys in the end think of
22:10the brand new super 7 retro visionaries do you does it disappoint you too that they're way too
22:15small do you feel like they should have been the same size or does maybe that doesn't bother you at
