00:16extra postage here's your look brand new super 7 visionaries knights of the magical light

00:36laoric the leader of the spectral knights from the visionaries knights of the magical light 1987
00:40cartoon is here as a reaction figure to defend your collection this four inch scale figure has 12
00:46points of articulation is highly poseable and comes with a number of accessories holographic magic in
00:51the form of holographic sticker reveals his courageous line mystical personality on his chest and on his
00:56staff he bears the totem of wisdom summon the visionary reaction figure to your collection now
01:02leader laoric may possess the staff of wisdom but what super 7 may be wise with some of the choices
01:07that they made for this brand new visionaries line we're gonna be answering that over the course of
01:10this review first things first though let's grab the tape measure and see how tall the figure's
01:14going to stand i can tell you right away one of my big problems right away with this line is
01:18the fact
01:18that the figures are way too small and you'll see in a second why i say that for how tall
01:22laoric's
01:23going to be though you're looking at the figure being yeah three and three quarters in size and
01:27that's going to translate to a figure that's about nine centimeters tall well three and three quarters
01:30doesn't seem so small well it does seem small the moment you bring in the original 80s laoric and
01:35you have the two standing side by side you could say to the credit of super 7 that the new
01:40laoric does
01:41have more of a cartoon accurate look to them but it comes unfortunately at a price that the figure
01:45is just way too small if you have plans to display them with the original 80s toys i haven't done
01:49it
01:49yet my plans are to pick up a second set of the visionaries wave one figures which right now only
01:54does consist of laoric and dark storm just so i could still keep them sealed inside of their plastic
01:59prisons the packaging on these are phenomenal i do like the way that they've actually got first of
02:03all the totems in the background of each of the characters so of course laoric is represented by the lion
02:07and then on the back of the car they actually do have a cardboard cutout file the same way though
02:13that the 80s toy had that also as well the one thing though while liking the fact that the card
02:17is
02:18there does also show you the characters down below as well one thing it's lacking though is it doesn't
02:23actually have the summons it makes mention of the fact that he has both the totem and he also has
02:28the
02:29the staff of wisdom but what it comes unfortunately though is missing he doesn't actually have the summons
02:34itself whispered secrets of a shattered age i summon you renew this sage the original file cards i
02:39believe did have those unfortunately though it's omitted all together on the new releases
02:44that would be one of the coolest features though about the cartoon was the fact that they had the
02:48summons that as kids you would cite off the summons the same time as them as they of course projected
02:53out their their powers and yet though unfortunately super seven chose not to include that on the back of
02:58their card i do like the look of laoric i like that it has a read-up about him but
03:02again it needed to
03:03have the summons there as well and dark storm doesn't seem to have his there either by the way
03:07there's dark storm listed down below as well as the other two one of the other two figures from wave
03:11one this by the way was about 24.99 over on big bad toy store not a bad price really
03:17considering all
03:18the accessories that come include with laoric we're also going to be kind of doing a comparison
03:22between the original 80s toy and then the new spectral knights laoric just so you guys can see the
03:27differences between the two maybe what we'll do starting first is looking at his whip everything on this
03:33is smaller smaller than the previous figures i mean again like if you look at originally laoric's whip
03:39it was a much longer whip and it seemed to have a lot more flexibility to it this new whip
03:45while it
03:45does have some bending features to it it just it doesn't feel like it's as soft of a plastic well
03:50the original one probably would have been more of a rubber plastic anyways this feels like by the way
03:55i'm bending it like it would eventually develop stress marks i don't think that that's probably going to
03:59be the case but just as i'm kind of moving the whip around it just doesn't feel like it has
04:03as much
04:04flexibility to it this can be held in laoric's hands the figure does benefit at least by having
04:09two gripping hands you probably can already see the hand that i've used the most when it comes to him
04:14holding the whip because these thumbs frequently get bent in and i'm sure it's going to be a trend that
04:21you're going to see continue go ahead and take the whip fit the whip inside his hands now i may
04:27have
04:27made also the mistake of trying to force that in on the side maybe just actually putting in down the
04:32front would have made better sense so of course he does come in clue with his whip as well there's
04:36no
04:36storage space necessarily on the back of his body he does technically come in clue with a backpack which
04:41is one upgrade that he do like about the new super seven releases we'll just put the whip over to
04:47the side for right now the one other thing of course that comes in clue with laoric is his staff
04:53again while i do think that super seven has done a really good job on this line there is a
04:57few little
04:58stumbling things that i've noticed about it well for starters i mean hopefully it gets the camera to
05:04hit it just right there's the light there's the summons of of wisdom now one thing though unfortunately
05:11it doesn't have here's the original laoric staff which again is so much larger than the newer release
05:16but like in the cartoon though and again i'm hoping though that you guys can see it what the staff
05:22usually did whether again it was a darkling lord or if it was a spectral knight as they summoned
05:27whatever power they were using from the staff it would flicker back and forth and i'm just hoping
05:33again i can get the light just to hit that right there you go so you got the wisdom owl
05:37but then it would
05:38alternate between that and like a pegasus or unicorn and see how it changes between the unicorn
05:45and the owl that's cool unfortunately though the new staffs and the totems don't have that
05:53so again just to i don't know why the light's not really hitting this just right it only really does
05:59show there it is there's the owl it only shows the owl could they not maybe i mean if you're
06:04going
06:04to start getting into a license like this kind of follows same same with the form some of the same
06:09formulas that your original 80s toy would have had as well i mean i like that the owl's there
06:14but could it not have been the cell there that's perfect see how it flickers between the unicorn and
06:20the owl so again like as he said the summons whispered secrets of a shattered age i summon you
06:25renew this sage that owl always was useless it would come out and most of the time it would just
06:30speak riddles this the summons of knowledge always seem to be make making more sense and i was kind of
06:35really thought why would not they have given these the summons of knowledge to laoric rather than the
06:41stupid owl that just again a lot of times spoken riddles so again like there's the why again i'm
06:47not missing there we go so it goes from the owl goes from the owl to the unicorn this one
06:53doesn't
06:53have that why it doesn't have that i have no idea with the way that we've advanced in especially in
06:58holographic technology by now you would think here again i'm just getting this to hit just right
07:06there we almost got it you get the idea so he does have again the staff but the staff doesn't
07:12have
07:12the flickering between the two different symbols why i have no idea what i do like though at least
07:18is that this time around unlike the original 80s toy they get actually backpacks so like in the cartoon
07:24and they could carry around the staffs when they weren't actually using him it was really a flaw
07:28also in the in the story writing of visionaries in the sense that every time they had to use the
07:32summoned staff they had to go back to murklin and charge the staff again every single time could
07:37there not have been maybe one of the spectral knights and on the other side of that of course of
07:41the coin
07:41could there not have been a darkling lord that would have had just a summons to recharge
07:47literally and you just keep going back to the person to even like if galandria and and
07:51wilhelmina wilhelmina could they not have either had either one of them be the ones that recharge
07:56the staffs instead of always constantly going back to murklin where were we going with this oh
08:02anyways by the way so the cool thing about the new visionaries toys is at least now they have a
08:06place
08:07to store their staffs so if for example you didn't want necessarily leoric we can go ahead and fit that
08:13into his hand so of course he can carry around the staff with him uh even though like the staff
08:18is smaller than the original 80s toy it's still a pretty big size when you compare it against the toy
08:24what you have now though is there's a hole on the back of their torsos and again you get the
08:29backpack
08:29here so the backpack clearly attaches into the hole on the back of the body that's simple shapes
08:34and then unfortunately though how this works there's not really enough space here see there's a clip
08:40the clip is really supposed to hold the staff well in order to get the staff on there you either
08:45can do
08:45one of two things take the backpack off first and the clip faces inward so it doesn't stick out
08:52so you have to take of course the staff of wisdom just attach it like that and then attach it
08:57onto
08:57the back of his body like that sometimes though as you are moving the figure around you'll notice that
09:02the staff pops out again one of the other things that you can also do too is just kind of
09:10move
09:15it's not the most secure grip i mean all often as you kind of move the figure around you'll find
09:20that the staff does pop out but again like there can you see it there i i keep missing it
09:26it's like
09:26the snuffleupagus there it is right there the staff of wisdom stupid owl it never really did anything in
09:32the cartoon it was always just speaking in rhymes and riddles and layer work i mean half the time the
09:37audience couldn't even understand either what exactly the owl was saying anyways though let's go ahead
09:44and just take the staff off right now the backpack stays fairly securely in place but i wish the same
09:50could be said for the staff the last thing that also comes with layork too is of course his helmet
09:55now before we actually put the helmet on i want to show you guys what the face sculpt looks like
09:59where i feel there are a few little things that i don't love about this new visionaries line i think
10:04the one thing that they have done well is making them fairly cartoon accurate here's the original
10:09layork as tall as he may be i mean like look out look at the size difference between the new
10:13super
10:14seven visionaries and the original ones now with the original staff the totems i should say
10:20there's the lion on the front of layork's chest most of these have held up pretty well and these
10:28are like gi joe bodies so of course they're going to be the o-ring so eventually those will deteriorate
10:31over time the screw though for that if you ever want to need to change them out you would just
10:36unscrew
10:36the section right there so i'm not sticking my middle finger up right here the inverted though
10:40electrical plug outlet you would just unscrew the screw right there and and take the two halves
10:45of the body apart from one another to change out the o-ring but that's the original uh we looked
10:50at
10:50a couple of these actually when we looked at the vehicles but there is definitely a size difference
10:54between the two the colors look better on this one i think the head sculpt certainly does look
10:57better on layork now what problem it has though also it also looks a little bit like roy kent
11:04i just saw that now it looks like roy kent
11:10from uh of course now now i'm drawing a blank
11:13oh it's gonna come to me roy kent oh his talk's really raspy
11:21i'm drawing a blank now anyways though the one thing i did want to say is that unfortunately the
11:26loot the head is very loose not sure really why it's as loose as it is
11:32if you move like the head kind of back like this it seems to stay pretty good in place
11:36the moment though ted lasso thank you for the person that was screaming not so loud
11:40screaming at the camera um but yeah if you move the head forward on roy kent here the head is
11:46loose
11:47i don't know why really it has to be as loose as it is if you kind of tilt the
11:50head back a little
11:51bit then the head seems to be not as bad now of course you can take yourself the helmet the
11:57helmet
11:57is more of a softer plastic here's the uh here's the original helmet from layork which was a much
12:03harder plastic a lot of times with these older toys you'd find yourself scraping off a lot of the
12:07paint now i the paint is still okay here on layork which doesn't at all really look like the cartoon
12:12it's a mustached guy that's about all it really is does it look like roy kent from ted lasso no
12:15it
12:16no it doesn't you just take yourself the helmet put that then in place and with this one the
12:21helmet looks a lot more like the cartoon that just fits again over top of his head like that
12:26it's not bad not bad at all now of course his summons his totem there's in the front of his
12:32chest
12:32there is his lion when i first heard that super seven was and you probably can already see how
12:38passionate i am about visionaries i love visionaries as a kid i love the toys but when i first heard
12:43that
12:43super seven was going to be getting the license of visionaries i probably like many people thought
12:48immediately that they were going to be doing ultimates and i thought wow that's going to be
12:51amazing imagine if there had been for example like a large pack case where you get yourself your figure
12:56and then you get yourself the summons or in in this case like the staff summons or even again like
13:01the
13:01totem summons either one of those so if he had come included like the little blue lion and maybe even
13:07let's stupid howl those would all be fun things that could come include with these figures
13:11unfortunately though by only really relegating this line to three and three quarter and so far
13:14the only thing that we're really actually getting for this line is just the weapons and the staff
13:18and again and now a brand new backpack but i would love to have they included as well the totems
13:23even if you couldn't include the summons had it maybe include the little lions you know again it
13:29would be like the little blue line that we could display on the shelf along with laoric
13:32despite being a smaller figure though actually the one other thing i want to do too is bring in one
13:37of
13:37vehicles this just happens to be the capture chariot i yeah i'm just looking right now for the other
13:43hovering pod but if you guys certainly did want to see do these vehicles fit well or i should say
13:48probably the other way around do these figures now fit well with the older original visionaries toys
13:53now just to take one of the floating pods here which again had the this has worn over time
13:59unfortunately if we take laoric and we can obviously bring his legs forward bend his knees
14:05bring out his arms like that i will say they fit pretty well with the vehicles
14:11not to the point where i'm looking at this and i'm thinking myself like that's too small
14:15like that doesn't really belong to this character i feel like it actually fits pretty well with this
14:20line so even though technically if they were to release a galadria or a verulina which i said earlier
14:26with the wrong name had they released both of those because again like we never got those original
14:3080s toys as figures you couldn't say like you could have not picked up just those two figures and
14:35have them displayed with your original 80s visionaries it just wouldn't work they'd be
14:38way too small but if you kind of start this line with only collecting like the super seven stuff
14:43with a small size like they are they could still technically fit with the vehicles because i think
14:48there'd probably be a very high unlikelihood that super seven would ever release vehicles for the
14:52visionaries line they probably just aren't going to do that so if you have the original 80s
14:55visionaries toys the vehicles more so than anything else technically the figures will fit those
15:00and also too we can take laoric even though really pharaoh would be really the one that would be
15:05commanding and controlling the capture chariot technically he does also fit inside the cockpit too
15:11so these vehicles i think also just happen to have it over here this thing keeps falling apart on me
15:21but
15:21i've got the spectral knights lancer cycle which yeah always falls apart though the front of it always
15:27comes loose on me but technically too even though again this isn't really the designed place for
15:33laoric to stay you could also put him inside the lancer cycle and it fits okay it fits it doesn't
15:40fit
15:40all that bad i when i first saw the size differences between these and the original 80s toys i thought
15:45immediately oh there's no way that they're going to fit the vehicles but in actual fact they do
15:49just kind of moving everything out of the way for laoric's articulation it really isn't that much
15:54different from the original 80s toy with that though despite unfortunately having a loose head
15:58roy kent's head does rotate back and forth it probably would be a lot easier just to remove
16:04the helmet back and forth up and down because again he also has the benefit of the overing the
16:09overing does move forward and back while the torso because the overing does move forward and back up
16:13and down the arms hinge out forward and back there is a swivel here in the elbow bend in the
16:18elbow
16:19there as well the hands don't rotate but because again they rotate here that's where all your
16:24posability is going to be leg split and they're basically just constructed the same way as three
16:29and three quarter inch gi joe forward and back on the legs bend at the knees oh by the way
16:33too
16:34they also have pegles on the bombs of their feet as well so if you wanted to make use of
16:37a display
16:37stand you could make use of a display stand how do i feel about this line well you know again
16:43like
16:43when i first heard that super seven had acquired the visionaries i don't know just ideas started to
16:49burn my head i thought to myself okay what's the chances what are the chances that they're going to
16:52be releasing an ultimate line of that that they could include the summons they could include the
16:56totems packed along with the figures kind of in the same way that they did with the ill-fated
17:01simpsons line in the end though we're kind of just essentially getting three and three quarter
17:05inch card figures which again are smaller than the original why is this guy not standing well
17:10which again like to display them along with the rest of your original 80s visionaries it just
17:15isn't going to work they're not the right size so again like for those that kind of thought to
17:19themselves initially maybe you were thinking oh okay well along the lines of well we're finally
17:23going to get a galadria we're also going to get a verulina the sizes of those figures just isn't
17:28going to work unless you know again you don't mind the fact that verulina and galadria are going
17:32to be notably smaller than the 80s visionaries toys everything really on the figures are smaller so again
17:38you get the smaller staff versus the larger staff you get the tiny little whip versus the much larger
17:43width if this is i would say like a size that you don't mind and if you're starting from scratch
17:48and you have no plans to necessarily fill in gaps for the original 80s visionaries then i think you're
17:54going to be set i like the look of the figures there are a few little things that i don't
17:58love so
17:59much about them i guess really if it wasn't so much the fact that they had to size class them
18:03to these
18:04guys and if i was only just solely looking at them on their own the one only really complaint i
18:09could
18:09probably make other than just yeah i just wish that they could have thrown in extra little goodies
18:13was though that the staff as stupid as a staff it may be why doesn't it not flicker it should
18:19really
18:19alternate and again i don't know really what the cost of producing holograms would be clearly i'm just
18:23the guy that's reviewing the toys but like why would they not have had an alternating hologram you know
18:29again they've done that though with the original 80s toys and we're talking toys that are 40
18:33plus years old they did it with the original 80s toys why would they have done it now with the
18:38ones released by super 7 you're seeking the wisdom on where you can find these new super 7 visionary
18:43figures for your collection space they are available right now you could either have gone maybe the
18:47route of super 7's website directly i just happened to have picked this on big bad toy store i had
18:53pre-ordered these a long time ago and finally got the announcement they were shipping out i'm happy now
18:57to have these but again it comes with a caveat unfortunately that the size class on these are way too
19:02small
19:02i haven't collected a lot of the retro o-ring gi joes that the ones that super 7 have now
19:08started
19:08to do as well i can't think that they're going to be smaller than regular joes because that would
19:13defeat the purpose altogether the whole idea with super 7 in mind was i figured they were doing this
19:18to fill in gaps especially with their joes for things that were found in maybe the movies or the
19:22episode that were deep cut characters but they could still fit well in your collections is it just the
19:28case that the visionaries the retro visionary o-ring figures are smaller for no other reason than with
19:33your saving cost why would they not have made them the same size as the original 80s toys because
19:38again i think a lot of people there were one half of the figures or one half the collectors that
19:43were
19:43probably looking at this new figure line thinking this is great i can get cartoon accurate characters
19:47the way that they look in the series they're going to have accurate looking staffs the summons are
19:52probably going to be looking better than they did before the holograms are going to look better than
19:56before and i think maybe yeah the holograms do look notably better but are they better really
20:01in the sense that they don't first of all they don't flicker back and forth between two images
20:05that's a big hit for me the staff i feel like how far along have we now come with technology
20:10on
20:11holograms why they did it in the 80s i know again it's just a budget thing why they did it
20:15in the 80s
20:16yet they couldn't have done it now with the staffs but i think too collectors that looked at this as
20:21an
20:21opportunity to finally get a galadria and a verulina would probably now be disappointed to
20:26find that these figures aren't going to scale at all with the original 80s you know with the
20:30original 80s visionaries they fit still well with the vehicles so that's a plus when we look at
20:35dark storm 2 i may not have the space to probably bring in the dagger assault but i'm going to
20:39bring
20:39in the sky claw and you'll see much like though the capture chariot the figures still fit size-wise
20:45pretty good with those vehicles that when you put them inside their cockpits wherever the cockpits may be
20:50they still look like they don't they're not smart sized too small so that's at least a good thing
20:56but yeah if you wanted to have these on display with the rest of your 80s visionaries they're just
21:00going to come up way too short there are things i like about it the face sculpts are definitely an
21:05improvement the colors of their costumes look better like they did in the original series
21:08but why they had to be shorter is beyond me because again i feel like they're probably doing that with
21:14the deep cut characters from gi joe's they're making them the right size to other joes
21:18why they not would have done that the exact same for visionaries it's beyond me by the way as a
21:23side note too like was the owl maybe the stupidest worthless summons of all the visionaries i mean i
21:29think like again knowledge beat wisdom i would likely have ever gone to knowledge maybe as the first
21:35choice to find out what was going on and needed a plan instead of this these riddles that this stupid
21:41owl would always end up reciting to laoric and half the time it only gave him like one or two
21:45words and
21:46then the bird would disappear and of course they'd have to go back to murklin's lair again to recharge
21:51their staffs could there not have been maybe verulina maybe galadriel could have had the the powers to
21:57recharge the staffs so that every side quest that they went on on behalf of murklin wasn't only there
22:03just so they could recharge their staffs again wow that was quite the tangent what do you guys in the
22:10end think of the brand new super seven retro visionaries do you does it disappoint you too that
22:14they're way too small do you feel like they should have been the same size or does maybe that doesn't
22:18bother you at all let me know what you guys think of this line down below if you guys in
