00:13I really hope the new O-Rings that they use for these figures aren't going to be subject to decay.
00:17Here's your look at the brand new Super 7 Visionaries, Knights of the Magical Light, Darkling Lord's Leader, Darkstorm.
00:22Darkstorm.
00:53And on his staff, he bears the Totem of Decay. Summon this Visionaries' reaction figure to your collection now.
00:59I almost really found it was strange that Merkling would trust Darkstorm with more power,
01:03concerning, really, that Darkstorm would be willing to steal the Sorceress' power for himself.
01:08Before that, we get a closer look at Darkling Lord's Leader, Darkstorm.
01:11Let's first take the tape measure and see how tall the figure's going to stand.
01:14If you have been following along the exploits of this humbled reviewer,
01:18you know that we've already had a look at Leoric, Leader of the Spectral Knights.
01:22Now, of course, we're going to be looking at the flip side of that and the other team.
01:25I hope, though, that this isn't going to be the end of the Spectral Knights,
01:28nor the Darkling Lords, and that Super 7 have plans,
01:31because they haven't really had a very successful history
01:34with some of the licenses that they've picked up in the past.
01:37As for, though, the past, I guess we really should be focused on the future.
01:41Darkling Lord's Darkstorm stands three and three quarters of an inch.
01:44That's going to work out to be a figure that's nine centimeters tall.
01:48I still have the 80s Darkstorm, so as you can see for comparison,
01:51there is considerably a size difference between the two figures,
01:54as was also the case when we also looked at Leoric,
01:57that they seem to have shrunk down the size on what now would be the retro O-ring figures.
02:04Strange, really, that, again, like they're doing these as O-ring figures,
02:07and yet, though, you would think that they would also have made them
02:10the same size as the original 80s toys, but clearly, as is the case,
02:14that's not the case at all.
02:15Another valid argument as to why you'd want to keep these figures
02:18still sealed inside of their package card
02:20is just that the card is so good on these.
02:22Now, really, we, again, only have two figures from this first wave,
02:25Leoric from the Spectral Knights, Darkling Lord, Darkstorm,
02:28now that we're looking at it in second review.
02:30I don't know, is that the face, really, of what a mollusk would look like?
02:34Mollusks are generally just large, oversized snails,
02:36but I guess, based at least on the artwork,
02:38that's what a mollusk would look like.
02:40Those things looked gross when you saw them from far enough away.
02:44I like, also, that the package art looks very much like the original 80s card as well.
02:49What's also featured, too, like the original 80s card
02:51is that they also have a file card that you can snip out carefully
02:54with a pair of snips.
02:56Unfortunately, though, once again, we're reminded that Super 7
02:59have omitted altogether the summons speech,
03:02because with all of these figures,
03:04at least the ones that would have had the staffs,
03:05you would have had a summons.
03:06The summons, though, for Darkstorm would have been that of decay.
03:10By what creeps, what crawls, by what does not.
03:12Let all that grows, recede, and rot.
03:16Why is that nowhere on here?
03:17I mean, yeah, they give a background,
03:19a brief synopsis of his personality.
03:22For Darkstorm, they also give as well a description for the mollusk.
03:25They give it also for the totem,
03:27and yet no mention could they...
03:29I'm sure they could have easily made these slightly smaller fonts,
03:32so that they could have still squeezed in there the summons.
03:35What's interesting also about Darkstorm is he's the only character
03:38from the Visionaries cartoon that does actually technically have two summons.
03:41He has a summons to turn someone to decay,
03:43and then he has the reverse spell of that,
03:46power of rot, obscuring truth,
03:48what once was old,
03:49restore to youth.
03:51He sort of does break the rules then.
03:53He doesn't have to necessarily go back to Merklin right away.
03:55Now, based on that, though,
03:57would that mean Darkstorm technically could use his decay twice,
04:00or does it have to automatically be a decay summons
04:03and then a reverse summons,
04:04and if he just doesn't use the reverse summons,
04:06he just loses the second summons altogether?
04:10Does anybody really care?
04:10I care.
04:11What I also care about the fact is that
04:13with all of the accessories for Darkstorm,
04:15they are literally just shrunk-down versions.
04:17This is the original 80s axe that came included with Darkstorm.
04:20Kind of looks a little like a toucan.
04:23This would just be a smaller version of that.
04:25That's a little bit different of a gold.
04:27Same kind of design,
04:28just a little bit, again, smaller.
04:30Because, again, everything on these figures
04:31is going to be smaller than the original 80s toy.
04:34Darkstorm does also come include the backpack,
04:36which this guy forgot to actually take off
04:38the back of his body.
04:41Get off, get off, get off.
04:42The backpack quite securely attaches onto the hole
04:45on the back of the torso.
04:47The backpack is a little bit different, though,
04:49than Leoryx.
04:50And the idea in mind was
04:52it's also supposed to be able to hold the staff.
04:54Now, I have noticed, though, with Darkstorm
04:56that the staff that he comes included with,
04:59which, again, is smaller than the original one.
05:01Here's the original staff of Decay.
05:04Very similar of a design.
05:06But, again, one thing that's unfortunately
05:08been left off here.
05:09I'm just hoping, again,
05:10the light's going to be able to catch you.
05:11There we go.
05:12Decay was sort of a...
05:14I don't know what you would call it,
05:15like a griffon gargoyle.
05:17But when they did summon it,
05:19it would flicker back and forth
05:20between two respected symbols.
05:22With the Spectral Knights,
05:23it was usually a unicorn,
05:24and then it was the main summons.
05:27When it came, though, to the Darkling Lords,
05:29it was usually then a dragon,
05:31and it would flip back and forth
05:32between a dragon and the summons.
05:35So as he was saying it,
05:37it would flicker back and forth,
05:38which was really cool.
05:39The new staffs don't have that, though.
05:41What it only just really has
05:43is there's the Summons of Decay,
05:45which, again, doesn't look that much different,
05:46really, than the original one.
05:48But it doesn't flicker.
05:50And I think that sucks.
05:52If you are going to be doing this,
05:53we've advanced far enough,
05:54I feel, in holographic technology.
05:57Could they not have maybe found a way
05:58just to not have a flickering effect piece
06:01the same way?
06:02I mean, I can.
06:02I know it's a budget thing.
06:03But, I mean, this did it, right?
06:06Could it not have done
06:07the exact same thing on this one?
06:09Here's another problem I have with Darkstorm.
06:12That backpack that we just looked at
06:14has a little clip on the back.
06:16And with Leoric,
06:18Leoric's held the staff perfectly fine.
06:20I can't help but notice, though,
06:22that if you look at Darkstorm's,
06:24his clip is wider than Leoric's,
06:27which you can probably already now
06:28piece together the problem
06:29that's going to be facing this figure.
06:31He doesn't hold the staff.
06:33The staff does not sit inside the clip
06:35and it doesn't stay in the clip.
06:36And I thought, okay,
06:38maybe it's going to hold the axe.
06:40No, it doesn't hold the axe either.
06:42Out of package,
06:43without doing anything
06:44to correct it and fix it.
06:45I probably could have just
06:46heated this in hot water.
06:47But to tell you guys, though,
06:49immediately when you get this
06:50out of the packaging,
06:50there's no way
06:51that he's going to be able
06:52to hold the staff
06:53at least on the back of his body,
06:55which just, again,
06:56plugs in place like that.
06:57So, again, like,
06:58if you take the staff,
06:59the only thought that I may have
07:01is with the staff not fitting,
07:04if you put the staff
07:05against the clip, right?
07:07Follow me along here.
07:08And then you clip it
07:09against his body.
07:11It's only just by the fact
07:12that it's so close to his body
07:14that it stays in place.
07:15That's the only way
07:16that this staff
07:17is going to stay there.
07:18And even then,
07:19it sits really loose.
07:20So as you are putting it
07:22on the back of the figure's body,
07:23you can see it's going
07:24to slide straight through.
07:26So it holds, I suppose,
07:28theoretically,
07:29but I feel like maybe
07:30that clip should have been
07:31a little bit tighter
07:32just on the back.
07:34One last thing
07:34that comes included also
07:35with Darkstorm,
07:36but just get now
07:37this off his body.
07:39Maybe we'll just keep
07:40the backpack on there.
07:42Clip it right there.
07:43Darkstorm, of course,
07:44also comes included
07:45with his helmet.
07:46Now, I feel really
07:47with Darkstorm too,
07:48there's very few times
07:49in the episodes I feel
07:50where he's actually
07:51wearing the helmet.
07:51The helmet, by the way,
07:53this is the original helmet
07:55for Darkstorm.
07:57Colors also, by the way,
07:58are a little bit more
07:58closer to the cartoon.
08:00The original Darkstorm
08:01kind of had more
08:01of the colors, I think,
08:02in like a greenish,
08:03a greenish teal color.
08:04This is definitely
08:05a little bit more accurate
08:06to the cartoon.
08:07And here, by the way,
08:08is the Darkstorm,
08:09the original 80s Darkstorm.
08:11The helmet,
08:11as big as it may be,
08:13fit over the top
08:13of the face like that.
08:15I have had actually
08:16a couple of visionary figures,
08:18I was going to say
08:18in human words,
08:19Vision, that's another
08:1980s toy line.
08:21I've had actually
08:21a couple of Visionaries toys
08:23that have had
08:23scraped paint
08:24on the fronts
08:25of their faces.
08:25Just because, again,
08:26like when you are
08:27putting on the helmet,
08:28it's pretty close
08:29in quarters to the face.
08:31But that's what he looks
08:32like with the helmet on.
08:32I don't know, though,
08:34if I'd end up doing
08:34the same here
08:35with Darkstorm.
08:36Technically,
08:36he does have the means
08:37to wear his helmet.
08:38Helmet seems also
08:39like it's a softer plastic,
08:41kind of rubbery plastic.
08:42But it sits still
08:43pretty close to his face.
08:46Getting it off of his face,
08:47again, my worry would be
08:48that that's going to
08:49eventually start
08:49to scrape the paint off.
08:51And also with Darkstorm, too,
08:52I think it's definitely
08:53one of the better faces
08:54of the two that we get.
08:56Just, again,
08:56we'll take off the helmet
08:57for Laoric so you guys
08:58can see the differences
08:59between the two.
09:01He was voiced in the cartoon.
09:02They'll figure,
09:03by the way,
09:03I'm pointing at Darkstorm
09:04was voiced in the cartoon
09:05by Crystal Lata.
09:07Crystal Lata would also do,
09:08was it Cravex?
09:10Cravex.
09:11Which also,
09:12many people probably
09:13would know Crystal Lata
09:13from also doing the voice
09:15of Cobra Commander
09:15and G.I. Joe
09:16and Starscream
09:17from Transformers.
09:18He had, I would say,
09:19probably one of the more
09:20normal voices
09:21when he was voicing
09:22that of Darkstorm.
09:23I love Darkstorm
09:24in the cartoon.
09:25And he just,
09:25he looks the part,
09:27although, again,
09:28like, he's very small
09:29when you compare him
09:30against with the original
09:30Darkstorm.
09:31There is quite a size
09:32difference between the two.
09:34Which means that
09:35when eventually
09:36they release a Verilina
09:37and a Galadriel,
09:39that they aren't
09:39going to be scale.
09:40I know we kind of
09:40talked about this
09:41when we also looked
09:42at Laoric,
09:43that when eventually
09:44I hope that they
09:44release those two characters
09:46because they never got
09:46the original 80s treatment,
09:48they are going to be
09:49notably smaller.
09:51I also did want
09:52to bring in
09:52one of the vehicles.
09:53There's just not
09:54enough space really
09:54to accommodate
09:55the Dagger Assault.
09:56But I brought in
09:57right now,
09:57I just took the gun
09:58turret off.
09:59Here's the Skyclaw,
10:00one of my all-time
10:01favorite 80s vehicles.
10:03I know, again,
10:04we've kind of done
10:04a review of this.
10:05This obviously pops out.
10:06You got a little cannon
10:07there on the front.
10:08Just make sure this
10:09sits inside the nose cone.
10:12And also these two
10:13opened up as well.
10:14I know, again,
10:14we've kind of done
10:15the review of that
10:15if you guys want
10:16to see what that looks like.
10:17Again, these would always
10:18kind of be popping out.
10:20While I also have
10:21this too,
10:21I want to show you guys
10:22where's the staff
10:23here for Darkstorm.
10:25It doesn't fit
10:26inside here.
10:28Unfortunately,
10:28though,
10:29while it being
10:30a slightly smaller staff,
10:31it doesn't fit
10:32inside of this
10:33because of,
10:34well,
10:34the end of it,
10:35the little knob
10:36that it has,
10:36doesn't really allow
10:37this to fit inside
10:38at least these
10:39storage places.
10:41Whereas the original
10:42staff,
10:43because it doesn't
10:44have that on the
10:44bottom of it,
10:45you could still
10:46slide that
10:47straight through.
10:49Now,
10:49based at least
10:50on that,
10:51you could say,
10:52well,
10:52at least it's
10:52a cartoon accurate
10:53staff.
10:54Maybe it is,
10:55but it comes at,
10:56though,
10:56unfortunately,
10:57the price that
10:57this little point
10:58at the bottom of it
11:00doesn't now allow
11:00it to fit inside
11:01of vehicles,
11:02which really sucks.
11:04I guess it is,
11:04unfortunately,
11:05a trade-off.
11:06The trade-off means
11:07that it's a better,
11:07more accurate looking
11:08staff the way
11:09it looks in the cartoon,
11:10but it's just not
11:11going to really work
11:11with the vehicles.
11:12Speaking of things
11:13that work with vehicles,
11:14I'm just going to
11:14bend the knees
11:15here for Darkstorm
11:16and have him sitting.
11:17I know normally
11:18he would not be
11:18sitting in,
11:19I think it's
11:20Mortar that sits
11:20in the front there,
11:21but he could
11:22technically sit
11:23inside the cockpit.
11:24And, you know,
11:25while looking at this,
11:26I had that same
11:27feeling that when we
11:27looked at the
11:28Capture Chariot,
11:29Leoric fit fine.
11:30I don't think
11:31that they're too
11:32undersized to sit
11:33inside of the
11:34vehicles themselves.
11:35I don't think
11:35necessarily I would
11:36look at this and
11:36think that this
11:37Darkstorm doesn't
11:38really belong with
11:38the Visionaries
11:39vehicle.
11:40You can also,
11:41again,
11:41a lot of times
11:41he was usually on
11:42the top here,
11:43which there are
11:44pegs right there
11:44on the top.
11:45You could technically
11:46attach Darkstorm
11:47there to the top.
11:48And, you know,
11:48again, like I don't
11:49think sizing is
11:50that much off.
11:51It's only really
11:52more of a difference
11:52when you see it
11:53next to the other,
11:54you know,
11:55the other original
11:5580s toys of the
11:56Visionaries.
11:57For Darkstorm's
11:58articulation,
11:59it's very much the
12:00same as, well,
12:01the original ones
12:02and then also
12:02Leoric.
12:03The head's going to
12:03be, the way it
12:05sort of works,
12:06if you were to
12:06take these apart
12:07and my guess would
12:09be, let me just
12:10take off the
12:11backpack right here,
12:12yeah, like with
12:12Leoric, the screw
12:13holes on the back.
12:14So eventually,
12:15though, if it is
12:17the case that the
12:18O-ring does
12:20deteriorate over
12:21time, you would
12:22likely be able to
12:23unscrew it on the
12:23back of the torso,
12:24just take the two
12:25halves off,
12:25replace the O-ring,
12:26put the two halves
12:27back on.
12:29But with G.I.
12:29Joe's, though,
12:30and it would be
12:30also the same with
12:31Visionaries, the way
12:32that the heads work,
12:33that they sort of sit
12:34inside of like a
12:35ledge.
12:36It's a cup like
12:36this, the head
12:37would sit on side,
12:39so if, like, my
12:40hand is like the
12:40head, it would sit
12:42inside sort of a,
12:43like a, I don't
12:44know, like a half
12:45circle cup.
12:47Because of that,
12:47though, the head
12:48doesn't really ever
12:48have good pose
12:49ability.
12:50It only really moves
12:50back and forth, and
12:51I feel like really like
12:52Super 7's pretty much
12:53done the same thing
12:54here.
12:55Dark Storm's head,
12:56unlike Leoric, isn't
12:57loose.
12:57I don't know why
12:59Leoric's was as loose
13:00as it was.
13:00Dark Storm doesn't
13:01seem to be having as
13:02much of that issue,
13:03but the head only just
13:04marginally moves.
13:05The arms also hinge
13:06out, forward and
13:07back.
13:07There is a swivel
13:09right here, right
13:10above kind of the
13:11elbow bend.
13:12And speaking of the
13:12elbow bends, there's
13:13also one there as
13:13well.
13:14Top of the torso,
13:15because it's all
13:15going to be attached
13:16by an O-ring, I
13:17mean, gives you the
13:18motions and the
13:19movements that an
13:20O-ring would usually
13:21give you.
13:22Legs do split, and
13:23you can kind of see
13:24the way that they're
13:24attached in place,
13:26forward and back on
13:27the legs.
13:27A little bit of a
13:28swivel, not much
13:29there, and there's
13:30also a hinge in the
13:30knees.
13:31By the way, too, also
13:32like Leoric, there's
13:33the peg holes on the
13:34bottom of the
13:34figure's feet.
13:35So if you wanted
13:36to, you can also
13:37attach these onto
13:37display stands, which
13:38really, again, like
13:39these figures don't
13:40come in with display
13:40stands.
13:41I do wish, though, and
13:43this is something I
13:43mentioned in the
13:44review of Leoric, once
13:45last time here, we'll
13:46also bring back in the
13:47original 80s Dark
13:49Storm.
13:50Maybe take off the
13:51helmet, too.
13:52What sells this line
13:54for me isn't the
13:55scale.
13:55I mean, if you're
13:56looking for these to
13:56scale in size, you can
13:57be disappointed, because
13:58again, like, clearly you
13:59can see they're, what,
14:01a third the height of
14:03the original 80s toys,
14:04if you have no
14:05problems with that at
14:06all, the one benefit of
14:07these figures is that at
14:08least they look more like
14:09the cartoon.
14:10I think Dark Storm really
14:11is the better of the two
14:12figures.
14:12Not that there was
14:13really anything wrong
14:14necessarily with Leoric,
14:15I just think that Dark
14:16Storm does look better.
14:18Everything, though, on the
14:18figure is shrunk down in
14:20size.
14:20One thing, though, that
14:21they have also shrunk, it
14:22seems, is the budget,
14:23because again, like with
14:24these staffs, I can just
14:26get this to flicker back
14:27and forth.
14:28Decay is there, and it's
14:29fine.
14:30It looks sharper, it looks
14:31crisper, but unfortunately
14:33he doesn't have the
14:33secondary flickering image
14:35of the dragon.
14:36I don't know, again, why
14:36that was left off.
14:37And again, like, weirdly
14:39though, with Dark Storm, he
14:41doesn't actually have a clip
14:42that supports his staff.
14:44The staff just, I mean,
14:45short of it just resting
14:47like that, I mean, that's
14:48maybe, I guess it survives
14:50if you have it all the way
14:51down like this.
14:53Maybe that's the way it's
14:55supposed to be.
14:55If you have it a little bit
14:56further up, though, I mean,
14:57it's just going to slide out
14:58of the clip.
14:59But I don't know why.
15:00I mean, I feel like maybe
15:02I'm going to have to go in
15:02there and heat this up with
15:03hot water just to make the
15:05clip a little bit more
15:06narrow without running
15:07risks of potentially
15:08breaking that off in the
15:09process.
15:10They still scale with
15:12vehicles, which is good.
15:13So if you have the Sky
15:13Claw and you have the
15:14Dagger Assault, they seem
15:16like they're not too
15:18undersized for the
15:19vehicles.
15:20If you're not bothered that
15:21they aren't the same size
15:22as these, they are good.
15:23I feel like they could have
15:25been better, though.
15:25So seeing the way that
15:27Darkstorm's staff sort of
15:28sat against the backpack
15:30clip, I decided to actually
15:31find a place to store the
15:33axe when, of course, he's
15:34not got it displayed in
15:35his hand.
15:36It is, again, only resting
15:37by the top of the pack, so
15:39it's not going to stay
15:40really securely, but I
15:41guess if it's close enough
15:42to his body, maybe that's
15:44why the Super 7 designed
15:46it the way that they did.
15:47The staff has to really sit
15:48far enough down there to
15:50stay in place.
15:50But again, it's also very
15:52close to his body anyways.
15:54Maybe that's the logic that
15:55they had when it came to
15:56designing it.
15:57I don't really like that
15:58myself.
15:58I'm still going to probably
15:59heat likely the clip up
16:01and see if I can just kind
16:03of bend it a little bit
16:04more so it's going to hold
16:05it a little bit better than
16:06it is right now.
16:07Darkstorm, I think, is one
16:08of the better looking of
16:09the two figures.
16:10Head sculpt-wise, I think
16:11it looks more like Darkstorm
16:13from the cartoon.
16:13Not necessarily that
16:15Leoric was a bad figure.
16:16Leoric also, something I
16:18didn't mention in the
16:18review for him, there was
16:20technically a convention
16:21exclusive Leoric that came
16:22out that was the same size,
16:24I believe, as the G.I.
16:25Joes.
16:25It came out, I think,
16:26with Jetstorm.
16:26It came out with a couple
16:27of other things that were
16:28known to being like the
16:29Sun Bows series cartoons.
16:31So we did already get
16:32a Leoric.
16:33At one point, I did want
16:34to try to get one off
16:35of eBay, but the prices
16:36were just way too stupid
16:38and crazy.
16:39Darkstorm, this is now
16:40the first time that we're
16:40getting the character again
16:41since the original 80s
16:43toys got released.
16:45Are they better looking
16:46figures?
16:46Yes.
16:47Do they look more like
16:47the cartoons?
16:48Absolutely.
16:49But again, I don't know
16:50why Super 7 chose to
16:52shrunk the sizing down.
16:53Something, though, I
16:54mentioned when we looked
16:55at the Leoric, with G.I.
16:57Joes that they've also
16:58done, the retro O-ring
17:00Joes, they, I think,
17:02have made them the same
17:03size as normal G.I.
17:04Joes.
17:05So the whole idea in mind
17:06is that you're filling in
17:07gap spaces.
17:08Why have they not done
17:09this then for the
17:10Visionaries?
17:10Because you would think,
17:11though, like anybody that's
17:12already collected the
17:13Visionaries toys, ones from
17:15the 80s, likely would then
17:16look at this and think,
17:17okay, this is perfect.
17:18But when they eventually
17:19release a Galadria and
17:21they do a Verilina, I can
17:23then have those figures
17:24displayed with the ones
17:25that I have from the
17:2680s.
17:26And it doesn't seem to
17:27really be the case unless
17:29strangely, though, they
17:30just end up making those
17:30two characters out of
17:31everybody else, of the
17:32Spectral Knights and the
17:33Darkling Lords, they just
17:34happen to make Galadria and
17:36Verilina taller than
17:37everybody else.
17:39We know that that's not
17:40going to be the case.
17:41What is the case, though,
17:42is that both of these
17:43figures are available right
17:43now, either online.
17:45Some stores also seem to
17:46have stocked these, too.
17:47I haven't had any luck to
17:48find these in the stores.
17:49I had, though, was able
17:51to find these on Big Bad
17:52Toy Store.
17:53That's where I ended up
17:54getting these.
17:54They were $24.99 a piece.
17:56For that price, they're not
17:57super expensive, and at
17:59least it also would probably
18:00be the nudge that you need
18:01to get a second one of
18:02these, a second set of
18:03these, because the artwork
18:04is so good on them, you'd
18:05likely want to keep one set
18:06loose and one set still
18:08sealed inside of their
18:09plastic prison.
18:11What do you guys think of
18:11the Super 7 Visionary
18:12figures?
18:13Let me know down below in
18:14the comments section.
18:14Does it, again, bother you
18:16at all that these are
18:16off in size?
18:18You wish that they were
18:19more in the same size and
18:20in the same scale as the
18:22previous ones from the
18:2380s?
18:23It doesn't really bother
18:24you at all, because maybe
18:25you never even had the
18:26original 80s toys.
18:27You're starting from
18:28scratch, and this, you
18:29know, if you were to be
18:30starting from scratch, it's
18:32a good scratch to start
18:33with.
18:34What?
18:35If you guys did enjoy this
18:36video, please, of course, do
18:37it with a solid and hit it
18:38with a like.
18:39And if you guys want to
18:40also follow me over on
18:41socials, stalk me on
18:42socials, you can find all
18:43those linkages down below
18:45in the video description.
18:46If you also need a fix for
18:47more video content, of course,
18:49there's going to be a spot
18:50for that.
18:50It's always right here inside
18:52the videos.
