On News Track with Maria Shakeel, the focus turns to escalating political tensions in Delhi as the INDIA bloc gears up for a public impeachment against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, followed by a mega rally at Ramlila Maidan. In response, the Bharatiya Janata Party has mounted a counter-campaign titled 'Loktantra Bachao, Arajakta Hatao'. The opposition accuses the Election Commission of bias and disenfranchisement through the Special Intensive Revision process, while the ruling party defends the poll body's sworn affidavit submitted before the Supreme Court. Political analysts and party spokespersons examine whether taking protests to the streets undermines institutional decorum or represents a vital democratic fight for accountability. Additionally, the programme covers the Supreme Court taking suo moto cognizance of digital arrest frauds, proposing that banks face prosecution and compensate victims when transactions deviate from normal patterns due to failures in due diligence.

00:00Good evening, you're watching NewsTrack with me, Maria Shakil, protests versus Paddyatras.
00:05The political battle has spilled onto the streets completely.
00:10The India bloc is turning up the heat on Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar
00:14with a public impeachment event on October 30th, that's tomorrow,
00:20which will be followed by a mega rally on November 1st at the Ramlila Maidan.
00:24The BJP, meanwhile, is hitting the ground with its counter-campaign, Lok Tantra Bachao, Arajak Tahatao.
00:31Two camps, two counter-mobilizations and a political contest gathering pace.
00:37The big question now will be, will November 1st remain a protest against CEC
00:42or evolve into a larger test of political strength?
00:47Before I bring in the guests, here's a report.
00:55This festive season, expect political fireworks.
00:59Delhi's streets are turning into a political battleground.
01:06The opposition's agenda is clear.
01:09Oust CEC.
01:10The India bloc has turned up the heat against CEC Gyanesh Kumar,
01:15announcing a public impeachment on October 30th
01:18and a mega rally at Delhi's Ramlila Maidan on November 1st.
01:25After police allegedly denied permission at two venues,
01:29the India bloc will hold its public impeachment at Congress President's residence.
01:33Former Lok Sabha speaker Meera Kumar will preside.
01:37Malik Arjun Karge will move the motion.
01:40Rahul Gandhi will deliver the concluding address
01:42and opposition leaders, civil society representatives
01:46and people affected by the SIR will join the proceedings.
01:51We have no other way but to hold this representative impeachment
01:55and we also thought that to give slot or windows to civil society
02:00and the victims of the SIR.
02:05Rahul Gandhi, meanwhile, has thrown his weight behind the November 1st showdown,
02:09urging people across the country to join the Chalo Dilli march.
02:13His message, don't be afraid of the police or Lattis.
02:18Don't worry about the police.
02:21Don't worry about Lattis.
02:24The BJP will not have the guts to try any of their antics.
02:29Come march with us.
02:30We'll walk together to protect the Constitution.
02:35And the opposition is leaving nothing to chance.
02:38India bloc leaders have huddled at Karge's residence
02:41while Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Wadra,
02:45KC Venu Gopal and Pavan Khaira have inspected Ramlila Meydan.
03:13But there is a festive season twist.
03:16Traders are urging Rahul Gandhi to postpone the November 1st rally,
03:20warning that a political show of strength could disrupt business
03:24at the busiest time of the year.
03:29But the BJP isn't sitting back.
03:32The ruling party has launched counter-protest and counter-campaign.
03:36Lok Tantra Bachao, Rajak Tahatau.
03:39BJP President Nitin Nabeen has also chaired a strategy meeting
03:43which was attended by Union Ministers Piyush Goyal,
03:46Kiran Rajajoo and other senior leaders.
04:12So as Delhi heads towards November 1st,
04:15the stakes are rising.
04:17This is no longer just a fight over SIR.
04:21November 1st will be more than a show of strength.
04:24It will be a showdown for political supremacy.
04:28Bureau Report, India Today.
04:32And joining me on this broadcast, Sanju Varma,
04:34National Spokesperson of the BJP.
04:36We have Adil Singh Bhoparai representing the Congress,
04:38Sajjan Kumar, political analyst.
04:41And I have Swati Chaturvedi, senior journalist and author.
04:45I'm going to begin with you, Sanju Varma.
04:47What really explains BJP's counter-move?
04:51That if something is being done by the India bloc,
04:54you have to counter it with your own padhyatra.
04:57I mean, you're not really trying to set an alternative agenda.
05:01You are trying to play on the pitch
05:03which has been set by the India bloc.
05:08You know, Maria, that's a very pertinent question.
05:11But if you know BJP,
05:12since you're a smart and seasoned journalist,
05:15the fact of the matter is
05:16that there are two ways of handling a situation.
05:20A, you make your own pitch.
05:21And two, you play on the front foot
05:24and decide to take up the challenge,
05:27the gauntlet thrown at you by the opposition.
05:30And the Modi government, the BJP,
05:32has decided to do both parallelly.
05:34So the march that was undertaken
05:37barely a couple of hours back by Nitin Nabeen,
05:39which was basically save democracy,
05:42you know, remove anarchy and remove mobocracy.
05:44I mean, that is not necessarily a counter
05:47to what Rahul Gandhi or the likes of a Yogendra Yadav
05:51who believe in street style veto
05:53have decided to do.
05:54If freedom of speech and freedom of expression
05:57is something that the Congress
05:58and Darbari ecosystem keeps talking about ad nauseum,
06:03then that same freedom of speech,
06:05that same freedom of expression,
06:07that same right to protest,
06:08the same rights under Article 19,
06:10which are available to the Darbari ecosystem,
06:13are available to us as well.
06:14And if we've decided to exercise them judiciously,
06:19if we've decided to exercise them with restraint
06:23to prove a point, to set the narrative,
06:26I don't see any harm in that.
06:28I mean, why are people so rattled?
06:30No, I don't think so anybody is rattled here, Sanjuji.
06:34I'm going to get the two analysts on the show
06:36and ask them that question.
06:38Swati Jadu Redi,
06:39it's evident that this is a pitch of the opposition.
06:43The BJP is saying that they are trying to play
06:45on the front foot here.
06:47But the question really is
06:49that in this competitive narrative setting,
06:53what role can a mock parliament really do?
06:57Or really play?
06:59Thank you so much, Maria,
07:00for having me on your show at the outset.
07:03You know, I've been saying this for a while now.
07:06This mock parliament to me
07:07is, you know, something which is very juvenile.
07:11I find it quite ridiculous
07:13because, you know, these are serious things.
07:15The Congress is the oldest political party in the country.
07:19We call them the grand old party.
07:21They used to be the biggest, you know,
07:22they had, it was the biggest tent.
07:24And all these things are very serious matters.
07:27They should be addressed in parliament.
07:29I mean, a mock parliament,
07:30a mock parliament can only lead to a mock prime minister.
07:33You know, you know, we are...
07:35And a mock CEC, who will be impeached.
07:38Exactly.
07:39You know, I mean, impeaching the CEC,
07:41you know, all of this,
07:43you know, Maria,
07:44the way it has been personalized against Ganesh Kumar
07:46is, you know, there is a systemic problem.
07:49Instead of attacking the systemic problem,
07:52talking about SIR,
07:53talking about the fact that
07:54people are being disenfranchised,
07:56you made it all about Ganesh Kumar.
07:59You know, like earlier the CJP
08:00had made it all about Dharmain Kumar.
08:02You know, and Dharmain Prasthan
08:04gotten rid of him.
08:05Has anything changed?
08:06So this very personalized campaign
08:08could backfire.
08:10You know, the BJP's picked up the gauntlet
08:12thrown down by the Congress and the opposition.
08:14And, you know, now they shouldn't be complaining
08:16that, you know, the trade doesn't be affected
08:18or not affected
08:19because after all the permission for this rally
08:21was given by,
08:22the Ramlila Medan was given by Delhi police.
08:25That's right.
08:25So, you know, they can withdraw it at any time.
08:27Okay.
08:27So you have to put all the responses.
08:29Okay.
08:29Okay.
08:30Let me bring in Sajjan Kumar as well
08:33as we wait for Adil to join us.
08:37Sajjan, how are you viewing this?
08:39Many would say that the BJP,
08:43which always played the role of good opposition,
08:47has again decided to play that role
08:50while being in power
08:51because they realize
08:52that they cannot give a free pass
08:55to the Congress party here.
08:58Yes, precisely the perception has been
09:00that BJP does an excellent job
09:03when in opposition
09:04and Congress always pretends to be
09:06a ruling party
09:07or a ruling party invading.
09:09And that is why
09:10the rule reversal seems a bit difficult.
09:13And that is why
09:13we are witnessing
09:14an unprecedented,
09:17unique situation
09:17in the history of modern India.
09:19That is that for the first time,
09:22you see both the ruling party
09:24and the prime opposition party,
09:26both are out in protest
09:28on the roads,
09:30in the streets
09:31and calling for movement simultaneously.
09:33So this is like one nation,
09:35one protest kind of a scenario
09:37wherein the ruling party
09:38and the opposition,
09:38they all are hitting the roads
09:41and the streets.
09:42This also shows that
09:44when politics has,
09:46democratic politics
09:47has two faces,
09:48one, the parliamentary politics,
09:49along with that,
09:50you have the oppositional,
09:51that is the protest politics.
09:53And what we are witnessing
09:54that the parliamentary politics,
09:56the conventional mode
09:57is taking a back seat
09:58and the protest politics
10:00from all the corners
10:01is superseding
10:03the parliamentary politics
10:04and it is foregrounding.
10:06And that means
10:06the politics is going to
10:08be more confrontational
10:10because the way...
10:11Street,
10:11the nature of street
10:12is confrontational.
10:14So let me bring in
10:15Adil Singh Bhoparai
10:16before I go back
10:17to Sanju Verma.
10:18Adil,
10:19the point that was being made
10:21by Swati Chaturvedi,
10:22a veteran journalist herself,
10:24that, you know,
10:25a mock parliament
10:26really doesn't really
10:28help your cause.
10:29Congress is planning
10:30a symbolic public impeachment
10:32of C.C. Gyanesh Kumar.
10:34How does it really help?
10:35Aren't you making a mockery
10:37of an issue
10:37that you have raised
10:39with a lot of conviction so far?
10:42Well,
10:43Maria,
10:43good evening.
10:44We live in very unusual times.
10:46We live in times
10:47where almost every institution
10:49in this country
10:50has been emasculated,
10:51perhaps barring
10:52a few notable exceptions.
10:54So therefore,
10:55under such circumstances,
10:57the opposition,
10:58which is muzzled
11:00at every curb,
11:01at every corner,
11:02has to find creative ways
11:04of putting their point across.
11:07And one such creative way
11:09is a mock parliament
11:11because, unfortunately,
11:12under the BJP,
11:14the parliament
11:14has been reduced
11:15to a notice vote.
11:17The BJP tries to ride
11:19roughshod
11:19over the processes
11:21in parliament.
11:22Unfortunately,
11:23the presiding officers
11:24are extremely biased.
11:26So that is basically
11:27the mock parliament
11:28flows out of that template,
11:30point number one.
11:31Point number two,
11:32the larger issue
11:33which is about
11:34vote sorry
11:35and the lack of credibility
11:37in Mr. Gyanesh Kumar.
11:39I think that goes
11:39to the root of our republic.
11:41If the empire is biased
11:43or if the empire
11:44has started to side
11:46with one party
11:46and there is overwhelming material
11:48to demonstrate
11:49that he is siding
11:50with one party,
11:51I think it's incumbent.
11:53the matter is subjudice.
11:55Let the courts decide.
11:58You know,
11:58the EC has submitted
12:00its affidavit.
12:01Of course,
12:02that affidavit
12:02raises much more questions
12:04than it actually
12:05finds answers to.
12:06In no way
12:07it has actually
12:08set aside
12:09any of the questions
12:10that were raised
12:10by Rithika
12:11in that story
12:12that she did.
12:13So my limited point is
12:15that here is
12:17opposition
12:18which is trying
12:19to really push
12:20for an issue
12:21or a concern.
12:23But again,
12:25if you do not
12:28wait for the parliamentary
12:31processes
12:31to really move ahead
12:33then how will
12:35a mock parliament
12:36really help
12:37the larger seriousness
12:38of an SIR
12:40which is about
12:41disenfranchisement
12:42of a number
12:43significant number.
12:45I'll respond to that question.
12:47Firstly,
12:47as far as the ECI
12:48and their affidavit
12:49is concerned,
12:50I think the ECI
12:51is tying himself
12:52in knots.
12:53Gyanesh Kumar
12:54is making it worse
12:55for himself.
12:56Be that as it may,
12:57the courts will decide.
12:58Yes.
12:58But what the court decides,
13:00I think it's important
13:01to indicate
13:02on behalf of the
13:03Congress party
13:04that our yearn
13:05for accountability,
13:07for political accountability
13:08in the political realm
13:10will continue regardless.
13:11This is point number one.
13:13Point number two,
13:14Maria,
13:15responding to your
13:16specific question,
13:17when processes
13:18and institutions
13:20have been made
13:21a mockery
13:21by the BJP,
13:23when yes-men
13:24are governing
13:25such institutions
13:26who have completely
13:27lost their voice
13:29and do not have
13:30So the Congress
13:31says,
13:32that the Congress
13:36party doesn't get
13:37a chance to speak
13:38in Parliament,
13:39their concerns
13:40are not addressed
13:41in Parliament
13:42and hence
13:42they have to
13:44resort to
13:45these ways
13:46in order to
13:47get the attention.
13:49Maria,
13:50I will answer
13:51your question
13:51because it's
13:52a very relevant one
13:53but I cannot allow
13:55statements made
13:56against the CEC
13:58and SIR
13:59by the Congress
14:00spokesperson
14:01go unchecked.
14:02So let me first
14:03say this,
14:04the Chief Election
14:05Commissioner
14:06and his team,
14:07it was a common
14:08affidavit
14:09which was signed
14:10by all the three
14:11election commissioners
14:12including
14:12Gyanesh Kumar.
14:14It is like
14:14making a statement
14:15under oath
14:16and was filed
14:17in the Supreme Court
14:18and while the Supreme Court
14:19will take a decision
14:20as and when it will,
14:22the fact of the matter
14:23is that Form 6
14:24was not altered.
14:26Point number one.
14:27Point number two.
14:28The fact of the matter
14:30is that three major
14:31SIR related decisions,
14:33one on the 24th
14:34of June 2025,
14:36one on the 27th
14:37of October 2025
14:38and the third one
14:39on the 14th
14:40of May 2026
14:41were all taken
14:43unanimously
14:43with consensus
14:45and the third
14:46and most important
14:47point is this,
14:48each time a Congress
14:49comes on national
14:50television
14:50and says,
14:52oh,
14:52Gyanesh Kumar
14:53is actually somebody
14:54who's a handmaiden
14:55of the BJP
14:56and that is the reason
14:57they're winning elections.
14:58I will just remind them
14:59about three people.
15:01A,
15:02TN Session
15:03who was given
15:04a ticket to contest
15:05from Gandhinagar
15:06after his tenure
15:07as Chief Election Commissioner
15:08expired.
15:09He was also accommodated
15:11in the Planning Commission
15:12after Rajiv Gandhi's demise.
15:14B,
15:15I will talk about
15:15N.S. Gill
15:16who was the
15:17Chief Election Commissioner
15:18from 2001
15:19to 2006
15:20and was made
15:21the Union's
15:22Fox Minister
15:23in 2008
15:24by Sonia Gandhi's
15:25kitchen cabinet
15:26and the third example
15:27I want to give
15:28is that of
15:29Naveen Shabla
15:30who was handpicked
15:31by Sonia Gandhi
15:32and appointed
15:33as the Chief Election Commissioner
15:35despite Sonia Gandhi
15:37not holding
15:38any constitutional position
15:40at that point in time.
15:42And my final point
15:43is this,
15:44that if there is
15:44one entity
15:45that has delegitimized
15:47our institutions,
15:48it is the Congress Party.
15:50Do you remember,
15:50Maria?
15:51They chose the date
15:521st November
15:53for their shenanigans.
15:551st November 1984
15:57is when the
15:59anti-Sikh genocide
16:01started.
16:02When Sikhs
16:03were being pulled out
16:04of their houses
16:04and butchered
16:05in broad daylight
16:07under the
16:08long and incompetent
16:09I am going to,
16:09I am going to come
16:11to 1st of November
16:12in just a bit
16:12but let me go back
16:13to Swati Chaturvedi
16:15and Sajjan Kumar
16:16as well.
16:16Swati Chaturvedi,
16:18of course,
16:19all eyes will be
16:20on what happens
16:21in Ramlila Maidan
16:22because that will be
16:23also a show of strength
16:25of the opposition parties
16:26but it is coming
16:27in the backdrop
16:28of MLC election results.
16:31Many would say
16:31why attach
16:32too much of
16:33importance
16:34to these elections
16:35but these were
16:37elections
16:37which were held
16:38on ballot paper
16:40which has been
16:41the demand
16:41of the Congress Party
16:42and then you have
16:44a case
16:45in which
16:45the regional parties
16:46like Akhilesh Yadav
16:47holding to his ground
16:48in the state
16:49of Uttar Pradesh
16:50the Svi Yadav
16:51led RJD
16:52doing well
16:53in the state
16:53of Bihar
16:54the larger question
16:55is also
16:56if you do not
16:57have the
16:58organizational support
16:59in narrative setting
17:00where do you go?
17:04Now,
17:05Maria,
17:05exactly,
17:05this is the number
17:06of the matter
17:06this is the most
17:07critical question
17:08everybody is
17:09squaring off
17:09for UP
17:10you know
17:11every single party
17:12and what we saw
17:13yesterday
17:14was a very
17:15important message
17:16to send to
17:16three chief ministers
17:17and they should
17:18all be getting
17:18the message
17:19it is a message
17:19to Yogi Adityanath
17:20it is a message
17:21to the BJP
17:22to get its house
17:23in order
17:23to get its act
17:24together
17:24and to stop
17:25the big infighting
17:28the big infighting
17:29which is going on
17:30in the Uttar Pradesh BJP
17:31and the fact
17:32that Yogi Adityanath
17:32does not exactly
17:33get along
17:34with Mr. Modi
17:35and Mr. Shah
17:35number one
17:36it was a message
17:37sent to DK
17:37Shiv Kumar
17:38who had promised
17:39after his
17:41takeover
17:41from Siddharam
17:42that you know
17:43the Congress
17:44has a citadel
17:45now in Karnataka
17:46is one of the very few
17:47big states
17:48the Congress
17:48still rules
17:49and also a message
17:50to Bihar
17:52you know
17:52where a newbie
17:53like Prashant Kishore
17:54managed to rest a seat
17:55so you know
17:56the electorate
17:57the voter
17:58has sent a very
17:58clear message
17:59and of course
18:00in Nagpur
18:00in Varanasi
18:01you know
18:02Nagpur
18:02is where
18:03Mr. Fadnavis
18:04comes from
18:05and where the RSS
18:06has its headquarters
18:08and Varanasi
18:09of course
18:09is the Prime Minister's
18:10seat
18:10so all of
18:12all of these
18:13are very critical
18:13messages
18:14that the voter
18:14has sent out
18:15I don't know
18:16if these
18:16political parties
18:17will decipher it
18:18or what their
18:19take away
18:19or you know
18:20whether there's
18:20going to be
18:21any introspection
18:22or not
18:22I think
18:23this is far
18:24more important
18:25than what happens
18:26on the
18:271st November rally
18:28because
18:29today also
18:30Rahul Gandhi
18:31had an outreach
18:32with beat
18:32correspondents
18:33to kind of
18:33convince them
18:34about the
18:34you know
18:35opposition's
18:36point of view
18:37but
18:38you know
18:38the fact that
18:39both of these
18:40outfits are
18:41hitting the street
18:42against each other
18:43is a bit comical
18:43I mean
18:44what is the BJP
18:44protesting?
18:45I don't understand
18:45I'd like Sanju
18:46I mean
18:47you know
18:47I'd like Sanju
18:48Rahman to tell us
18:49what is the BJP
18:50hitting the streets
18:50for?
18:51It's the government
18:52Okay
18:53what is the BJP
18:54hitting the streets
18:55for?
18:56You know
18:56first and foremost
18:57Swapi made some
18:58very interesting
18:59points
18:59and I will answer
19:00what she's
19:01posed
19:02without ducking it
19:04you know
19:04what is the BJP
19:05protesting against?
19:06I think BJP
19:07is the one
19:07who should be
19:08protesting
19:08against the
19:09daylight
19:09vandalism
19:11of the
19:11legal system
19:13daylight
19:15and delegitimization
19:16of the electoral
19:17process
19:18daylight
19:18legitimization
19:19and vandalization
19:20of freedom of speech
19:22you know
19:23where professional
19:23Landolan Jeevis
19:24gather at
19:25Jantar Mantar 1.0
19:26and say
19:26Sansad Bhavan
19:31is BJP supposed
19:32to be lying down
19:33and taking
19:34all the muck
19:35that is thrown
19:36at it
19:36certainly not
19:37and for those
19:38who say
19:39why has BJP
19:40taken so long
19:41to wake up
19:41and we will decide
19:43when we want
19:43to protest
19:55you know
19:56all the questions
19:57that are being
19:57raised
19:58no no no
19:59Maria
20:00let me make
20:01one thing
20:01very very clear
20:02I think
20:03more than
20:04a press conference
20:05and I say
20:06this with all
20:07humility
20:08more than
20:09a press conference
20:09a written
20:10affidavit
20:11which is like
20:12a you know
20:13document under
20:14oath
20:15which have
20:16the signatures
20:16of Mr.
20:17Gyanesh
20:18but Sanju
20:18it has raised
20:19lot of questions
20:20still there
20:21unanswered
20:22questions
20:22even after
20:24that affidavit
20:24Maria you don't
20:26do this normally
20:27why are you
20:27interrupting me
20:28let me finish
20:28please
20:29you know
20:29my limited
20:30point is
20:31more than
20:31a press conference
20:32Maria
20:32with no
20:33offence to
20:33anyone
20:34a document
20:35why an
20:37affidavit
20:38signed by
20:39Gyanesh Kumar
20:39signed by
20:40SS Sandhu
20:41signed by
20:41Dr.
20:42Vivek Joshi
20:43is far
20:44more relevant
20:45has far
20:46more weightage
20:47and credibility
20:48than a press
20:48conference
20:49and I tell
20:49you what
20:50I will say
20:51on your show
20:51Ritika Chopra
20:53and Indian
20:53Express
20:54did a
20:54hit job
20:55no I will
20:56not take
20:56that
20:57I will not
20:58take that
20:58at all
20:59Sanju
20:59and Ma
20:59I respect
21:00her journalism
21:01I will not
21:02be taking
21:02this on my
21:03show
21:03please no
21:04ma'am you
21:05have to
21:05respect
21:06a journalist's
21:07hard work
21:07and I
21:08respect
21:08Ritika Chopra's
21:09hard work
21:10there is no
21:10hit job here
21:11whatever questions
21:12has been raised
21:13about 14
21:14objections
21:14that has not
21:15been answered
21:16by that
21:17affidavit
21:17so I am
21:18going to
21:18bring in
21:18no ma'am
21:19no
21:20Adil Singh
21:21Boparai
21:21you may say
21:23whatever
21:23I will not
21:24take that
21:24on my
21:24show
21:25Adil Singh
21:25Boparai
21:26we have to
21:26respect
21:27the profession
21:28and the
21:28professionals
21:28yes please
21:29Adil
21:31Adil
21:32it is
21:33important
21:35that your
21:36viewers are not
21:37misled by the
21:38BJP lettering
21:39so therefore
21:40let me place
21:40one fact
21:41for their
21:42benefit
21:42in 2023
21:44this autocratic
21:46mindset
21:47which is the
21:48BJP and
21:49the RSS
21:49pushed the
21:50legislation in
21:52parliament
21:52which provides
21:54for lifelong
21:54immunity for the
21:56election commissioners
21:57never before in
21:59the history of our
22:00country such a
22:01provision has been
22:02passed
22:02not even the
22:03president or the
22:05governors have
22:06lifelong immunity
22:07even their
22:08immunity is
22:09restricted during
22:10the currency of
22:11their tenure
22:11so what does
22:12this demonstrate
22:13this demonstrates
22:15that Mr.
22:15Modi and
22:16Amit Shah
22:16wanted a
22:18cloak of
22:19immunity around
22:20these election
22:20commissioners so
22:21they can continue
22:23in vote chori
22:24point number one
22:25point number two
22:26let me deal with
22:26the specifics as
22:27far as the
22:27allegations are
22:28concerned
22:29the affidavit in
22:30fact admits
22:31that a committee
22:33of experts of
22:34IITs IIMs etc
22:35has been
22:36constituted as
22:37far as the
22:38accessibility of
22:39the ECI net
22:40database is
22:41concerned
22:41number two
22:42it acknowledges
22:44that a
22:44declaration has
22:45been added to
22:46form six which
22:47appears like an
22:48amendment
22:48this is not me
22:50saying these are
22:50the words of
22:51the affidavit
22:52when you add
22:53a declaration to
22:55an app to a
22:56form six that
22:57becomes a
22:57composite
22:58application and
22:59you put onerous
23:00obligations by
23:01way of a
23:02declaration that
23:03tantamounts to
23:04an amendment
23:05point number
23:05two point
23:06number three I
23:07fail to understand
23:08why is the
23:09BJP defending
23:10the ECI or
23:12more particularly
23:12yes that's the
23:13question that we
23:14have asked the
23:14BJP repeatedly
23:17yes it's high
23:18time that the
23:19CEC and the
23:20two election
23:21commissioners hold
23:22a press conference
23:22and answer all the
23:23questions that are
23:24being raised by
23:25all the journalists
23:26and the country at
23:27large really
23:27appreciate your
23:28time Sanju
23:28Varma
23:29Adil Singh
23:29Boparai
23:30Swati Chaturvedi
23:31and Sajjan
23:31Kumar
23:31remember there
23:33was an
23:33interesting
23:34development in
23:34the Supreme
23:35Court today
23:35two lakh
23:36fifty thousand
23:37cases over
23:38three thousand
23:39crores
23:40these are the
23:41figures from
23:412022 to
23:432025 that
23:44highlight how
23:45big a menace
23:46digital arrest
23:48is in India
23:49and today the
23:51Supreme Court
23:51said enough is
23:52enough taking
23:53slow motor
23:54cognizance of
23:55digital arrest
23:56scams the
23:57top court
23:57said banks
23:58must be held
23:59accountable for
24:00losses suffered
24:01by victims if
24:03the fraud
24:03results from a
24:06failure of due
24:07diligence the
24:08court also
24:08stressed that
24:09banks have a
24:11duty to protect
24:12customers asking
24:13why unusual
24:14transactions are
24:16not flagged when
24:17they deviate from
24:18an account holder's
24:19normal banking
24:21pattern the bench
24:22proposed that
24:23banks compensate
24:25victims and
24:26face prosecution
24:28where fraud
24:28occurs due to
24:29failures in due
24:31diligence the
24:32court has also
24:33sought details of
24:35authorized financial
24:36institutions and
24:36the proposed
24:37safeguards including
24:39compensation for
24:40victims in fact
24:42the chief justice
24:43questioned why
24:44educated citizens
24:45continue to fall
24:47prey to these
24:48scams despite
24:49widespread awareness
24:51campaigns the
24:53center meanwhile
24:54informed the
24:54court that
24:55reported digital
24:56arrest cases have
24:57declined by around
24:5850% compared with
25:00the previous year
25:01however the chief
25:03justice noted that
25:04losses from such
25:05offenses had still
25:06reached nearly 800
25:08crore rupees this
25:10year
25:12all right that
25:14brings me to the
25:15end of this
25:16broadcast thanks so
25:17much for watching
