00:01Eyebrows are interesting. They're one of the only piercings that require like a
00:05two-push method. It is a little bit more like a finesse.
00:11I'm Lauren and I'm getting my eyebrow pierced today. I want to get my eyebrow
00:14pierced today just because I like the look of it and I think it looks badass.
00:17I'm a cinematographer based in LA so I feel like an eyebrow piercing is gonna
00:20be a big bold statement piece that I think will really just tie the whole
00:23look together. I didn't really tell any of my friends I was gonna be doing this.
00:26I ended up calling my mom to see if it was a good idea or not and she's like
00:29well if you don't like it you can always take it out. She's always telling me to
00:32live while I'm young and to take a picture of it and laugh when I'm 50 years
00:36old. I normally take care of my piercings. I've never really had any problems with
00:39them. I am a little worried if I have to take off like my eyebrows for a good week
00:44just because I rely on makeup so much. Eyebrow piercings are anatomically
00:48dependent. They're one of those piercings that you have to have a certain
00:50anatomy for. If you have very flat eyebrows or something without a lot of
00:55structure there if we pierce it it's just going to push through and reject.
00:59I'm Lucy Dahl I'm a piercer at Aesthetic Ambition Piercing and Tattoo in Marina
01:04Del Rey California. I started off in an apprenticeship with my mentor Thomas Hall
01:08he's the owner of the studio that I work at. I did about a year-long
01:11apprenticeship before I started actually getting into doing piercings and I've
01:15been piercing for about five years since then. Piercing to me is a way of
01:22expressing the way that you want to look, the way you want to present yourself to
01:26other people in a much more personal way. Things like makeup, hair dye, all of that
01:34stuff are also options but piercings kind of bring it to a whole nother level. I
01:39love eyebrow piercing. They're super fun. They're pretty easy at this point for me
01:43and I love that they're coming back in style right now because the 90s are alive
01:46and well we're back in it. Let me grab you some jewelry options so we can take a
01:50look. Okay. I'm not really a huge fan of needles as long as I don't see any of the
01:54procedure happening. Watching this video back I might like cringe a little bit but
01:58during the actual procedure I think I'll be fine. I think I want to go with this
02:02black and silver one. Okay that guy's cool that's genuine onyx. Oh wow. Perfect.
02:07Awesome. All right yeah we can do that. So as I lay Lauren down I'm going to set up
02:12behind her. I'm going to grab my 16 gauge needle, 16 gauge threaded taper, and my
02:18jewelry which is also a 16 gauge so everything matches and it's a little
02:23bit more comfortable for Lauren that way.
02:30After cleaning I'm going to mark some options for her. I like to give about
02:35three options for my clients so that they have a little bit more of a choice in
02:39the matter.
02:45I'm going to go back and wipe once more. This second prep ensures that the
02:50marker and any sort of touching that has happened in between the first prep and
02:54this one will be prepped as well. After that prep has dried I can begin the
03:01piercing process. I'm going to take my needle and lay it down on the entry point
03:08of the piercing. Once aligned and ready to go I have Lauren take a nice deep breath
03:14in. Upon her exhale I begin the piercing process. This is a two-step process so the
03:22needle goes in at one angle I pivot and push it out the other angle.
03:39Once the needle is all the way through I guide my taper through the back end of the
03:43needle with the jewelry attached creating a seamless transfer and almost no pain for Lauren.
04:04all right you ready yeah okay take a look oh I love it yay I'm trying not to like touch
04:12it
04:12I know yeah please don't touch it. My initial reaction after the piercing was that it didn't
04:18hurt that badly and it was over faster than I thought it was going to be. Why am I so
04:22nervous
04:23she knows I got this. Hi mom. Oh there you are. Oh my gosh. How do you like it? Wow.
04:32I think I actually
04:33like it. She actually likes it. Oh you look so different. In a good way? Yeah in a good way.
04:41I really
04:42appreciated Lucy she walked me through all the procedures so I wasn't nervous at all and she
04:46gave me a lot of aftercare tips. So when it comes to healing piercings I recommend a very minimal
04:51method just using a sterile saline spray about once a day after you either wash your face for facial
04:58piercings or take a shower for any other piercings. Other than that just leaving it alone. Turning a
05:02piercing is basically like ripping a scab. It's going to continue to open that piercing channel up
05:08causing the healing process to start all over again. At the end of the day it is a piercing and
05:13if I
05:13don't like it two years from now I can always stake it out so I don't think it's that big
05:17of a deal
05:17but yeah I'm really excited about it right now.
