00:16I haven't cut my hair in 11 years.
00:18I used to look like Dora the Explorer with my hair cut to here and I haven't cut it since

00:25The inspiration for this look is my mom.
00:28I've always wanted to have wavy hair like my mom's thicker hair.
00:32She modeled her luscious hair so I want to see if I can get that look too.
00:36My current look makes me feel a little boring.
00:38It's what I wake up with every single day.
00:41Sometimes I don't even brush my hair.
00:42I just get up and start my day like this.
00:45So I'm definitely gonna have a more interesting look
00:49and something to look forward to kind of taking care of on a day-to-day basis as well.

01:15Today, like when we're finished, it's going to be really tight and curly but then you wait two days
01:20to shampoo it and then after you shampoo it, it'll be a very soft, gentle wave.

01:32First, I'm going to shampoo Ellie's hair and make sure it has no excess oils in it.
01:36Then brush through to remove any knots.
01:38The Mare Wave is different from the 80s perm because it's a more natural effortless texture of
01:43pearl.
01:43It's meant for people just to have a little bit more body and volume and movement to their hair.
01:52I sectioned her hair and customized it to Ellie's texture and desired style.
01:57I perfected the Mare Wave with the owner of Mare Salon, Mara Rosak.
02:01We kind of got together and created a different technique that's customizable for each client
02:07where it's really unique to them and it fits who they are and what they're kind of looking for,
02:12whether it's more volume or just so that it makes styling their hair a little bit easier.
02:19Hair to me is really what sets the mood for a lot of my days.
02:24When I'm feeling lazy, I have a really lazy hairstyle.
02:28And when I'm feeling like I want to go out there and conquer the world,
02:32I really go all out with my hair as well.
02:34So I'm most excited about seeing the final look.
02:37I think it's going to take a couple of days to really kick in, but I'm so excited about that.

02:51Then apply the waving lotion and let it sit for about 20 minutes.

03:07strong chemicals and you want to be careful to not ruin or damage your hair.

03:17The Mare Wave is really great because it's a five-month commitment, but depending on your hair,
03:25like, it can grow out really soft and natural because it's not like the old 80s perm.

03:47It's a little damp still. I like to, like, let it leave a little damp, but you look like a
03:52mermaid.
03:52I love it. I'm so happy.
03:54And it's not too curly, you know?
04:03To keep it healthy and wavy and gentle, I suggest an oil, maybe a davenous oil oil or a beach
04:11spray.

04:33It's now been two days since my perm and also the first time I was able to shower since the
04:38treatment
04:39had to really settle in. And it's looking really promising. Look at this wave. I'm just so surprised
04:49that it held up and just even more lively.
04:54It's good to know that everyone's hair reacts differently. So it just depends on the style,
04:59the texture, the thickness of your hair. So what she has, you know, is great,
05:04but it may be different for someone else.
05:06This look 1000% boosted my confidence. I wanted something bubbly, bouncy, like my personality,
05:12and I'm just so happy that my hair isn't dull and straight as it was. I'm just excited to rock
05:19this new beautiful California style look.
