00:10We came to New York to pursue our passion for fashion. We came here with no jobs, no money, straight
00:16out of college. We just moved here.
00:18For our family, it was like, you guys are doing what? I think my mom was like, you guys don't
00:21even know how to sew.
00:22I think we first fell in love with fashion when we moved to this country and in order to assimilate
00:27we thought, you know, the best way to
00:28connect with people was how you dress. We got invited to be on the Oprah Winfrey Show one month after
00:34we launched Matana.
00:35So if you're going to succeed anywhere in fashion, New York's a perfect place to start.
00:39We love that we have a different start to start. We love that we're from Somalia, but we're New Yorkers.
00:44And so we always can pull inspiration from Somali women. We at the same time have a modern, sleek New
00:50York appeal.
00:51We are inspired by New York nightlife. When we get dressed for the day, we make sure that we wear
00:56things that can take us from day to night.
00:58We love going to art galleries and fashion events. In New York, you know, work doesn't end when you leave
01:03your office.
01:04You know, you're working when you go to a dinner party. You're working at a network event.
01:08You're having cocktails with someone who works at a major magazine, so you always have to be ready and prepared.
01:13In time for minutes, we love meeting up with our friends over cocktails.
01:16You know, we're serious all day, so when we get to kind of let loose and hang out with our
01:20friends,
01:21taking some glamour shots, that's how we really get the night started and we start to dance.
01:25The whole time keeping it stylish and glamorous.
01:27You know, every year we grow and we're happy that we're living our dream.
01:31We're doing what we love against all the odds.
