We've all had 'em — those days you're happy just to have rallied yourself outta bed and out the door. Armed with a little caffeine, you think you've fooled the world. Until someone invariably greets you with a chipper, "You look tired." And, with that, your act has officially been foiled.

If we had to guess, we'd surmise it's our baggy, swollen eyes that reveal our lack of sleep. So, we called on makeup-master James Vincent to work his magic on our peepers. In typical fashion, he went above and beyond the call of duty, not only teaching us how to wake up our eyes, but do it without liner, mascara, or any of the usual suspects. Watch as he leaves our super-hardworking fashion assistant, Rachel, looking bright-eyed and bushy-tailed — using solely shadow. See for yourself, above.

00:11so I look really tired a lot and James is gonna show me how to look more awake
00:15with only eyeshadow no eyeliner and no mascara I'm gonna be honest here okay be
00:20honest we do a lot of videos together and you're a gorgeous girl but the last
00:24time people made some comments that you look tired now I know how hard you work
00:28so I want to show you a few little tips that you can use to really open up your
00:33eye awesome all right perfect the first product I want to show you is a multiple
00:40from NARS what I'm doing is just using my finger and sculpting this right below
00:44your actual brow bone and then I'm going to do the same thing right below the
00:48cheekbone and what that will do is give you the appearance of more contours the
00:53next thing I'm going to do is I'm going in with a shadow palette and I'm using a
00:57very matte eyeshadow in a taupe shade and I'm bringing the color just onto the
01:02very tip of the brush sculpting right into the crease will actually give you more
01:07lid space and open up the eye completely I'm also going to use that same color
01:13right below the eye and I'm working with matte shadows because that's going to give
01:19me the recession and the depth that I need I'm then gonna juxtapose that against a shimmer shadow and
01:27I'm using a softer bristle brush and I'm just going right into the center of the
01:31lid and then into the corners of the eye from the new crease that we've created
01:35right to the lash line so I'm just blending up that crease so it's not so
01:41evident and I cannot wait for you to see how open this picture I look and I'm going to do
01:47the other eye and then I'm going to let you take a look
01:49okay great
01:57I've done the other eye it's a very subtle makeup for a video but this should look subtle you don't
02:03want anyone to spot where you're recontouring or restructuring the eye so I want you to take a look
02:08oh wow that's awesome if you have a more protruding brow bone that darker color will
02:15recess it back give you more lid space and make you look more awake go out there
02:19and finish working look awake but tonight you look awake
