04:56If it's important to you, it's important to me, because you are the reason that I have
04:59a show to begin with.
05:00It's your incredible loyalty to listening to this show, which I cannot ever, ever thank
05:05you enough for.
05:06September and October were the two biggest months in the history of the show in terms
05:11of viewership.
05:12I'm hoping November stays that way, and if it does, it's going to be because of the
05:15loyalty of you incredible listeners.
05:17So, tonight, let's get into the news for the day.
05:20Paul Walter Hauser, who, if you ask me, my favorite thing that he has ever done in the
05:26world of entertainment was for Cobra Kai when he played the role of Stingray, but he has
05:32gone into the pro wrestling world, specifically with MLW, and he's done some things.
05:36He was at Battle Riot, he's made several appearances, and at this point, I actually was of the opinion
05:42that I thought he would stick it out there for a very long time.
05:45It seemed like there was a great thing going on there.
05:47He's a relatively unique presentation.
05:50He is a big Hollywood star, so you would think that MLW would have a reason to want to keep
05:55him in their organization, but it sounds as though there are creative differences that
06:00rose up between both he and MLW, and they have decided to mutually part ways.
06:06He was very amicable about how he referenced their company, all the opportunities they provided
06:10him, but they just simply couldn't come together and agree on creative planning.
06:15I do have noticed that most of what he did for them, I don't want to say it came across
06:20more comedic, but it certainly didn't seem like they were trying to make him seem like
06:25a legitimate professional wrestler, threat to a championship kind of guy, and maybe,
06:30I'm just speculating, maybe he felt like he was ready to do more.
06:35Maybe he was ready to be taken a little more seriously.
06:38I don't know.
06:39I haven't had the opportunity to really sit down and talk with the guy, though I would
06:43love to.
06:43Paul Walterhauser, if you're listening, I would love to have an interview with you, but I
06:49actually think this is a bad thing for MLW, not because talent doesn't come and go.
06:53Of course it does, but when you're MLW and you're not the number one promotion in the world,
06:57you're not the number two promotion in the world, and frankly, with the way TNA and AAA
07:01and CMLLR and New Japan, I don't know where they rank in the hierarchy of brand dominance,
07:08but I would not be turning my back on a Hollywood star who brings eyes and viewership to your
07:14product.
07:15That's just my perspective.
07:16If there's a discrepancy over creative, I mean, let's be honest, it's the world of
07:21professional wrestling.
07:22The matches are predetermined anyways.
07:23Anyways, just predetermined something to make the guy happy to keep him on the books and
07:29keep him bringing in other viewers.
07:31That's just my perspective on it.
07:33Now, of course, if he's becoming an egomaniac and he wants to be the star of the show, then
07:38maybe that's not what you do.
07:40I don't know.
07:40I'm not in the booking room.
07:42I'm not the person putting the live events together, who, by the way, I guess the head
07:46of their live events is a former employee of AEW now, so maybe that'll help them a little
07:51bit, but yeah, so Paul Walter Hauser gone from MLW.
07:56Gotta get into an update to the report that came out a few days ago about creative shakeups
08:02in WWE, specifically that Bruce Prichard was planning to retire from his current role and
08:09become a remote consultant, as well as other things related to Michael Hayes, AJ Styles,
08:18Bobby Roode, Shawn Michaels.
08:19And now Fightful is putting out a new report that kind of contradicts a lot of that.
08:24One, that there's a six-month strategy for Bruce Prichard, that he's stepping back from
08:28his current position, but he's going to be able to perform his duties remotely and that
08:32he's not retiring.
08:34A little different from what was originally reported.
08:36I have not heard what Shawn Michaels' change of position is, but we also heard that Shawn Michaels
08:43was being groomed as his replacement and that AJ Styles looked like he was going to step
08:48in and take over much more with NXT.
08:51And the conversation around AJ Styles is, is that yes, he has been at NXT more and they
08:57do expect him to increase his influence in WWE, but the only thing he's really shifting
09:03his focus to and taking the lead in is talent acquisition, you know, finding those new stars
09:09to come into the company.
09:10So the report previously had noted that they thought that AJ had taken over, created for
09:16NXT for the last couple months.
09:18And this report that came out completely challenges that, that that is not the case.
09:23He finished a class, teaching a class at some point and things of that nature.
09:28And he's very helpful and he's very positive presence at the performance center that he's
09:32there really frequently, but that he had not taken over creative, which was what the original
09:37report was saying.
09:38In terms of Bobby Roode, there was conversation about him replacing Michael Hayes.
09:43Now this report is saying that if he were to replace somebody, that they are preparing
09:47him to potentially be able to step into a Michael Hayes or Bruce Prichard's type of role.
09:55But that if any of these creative changes took place, it would be a whole organizational
10:01restructure and it would trickle all the way down from the main roster to NXT to evolve to
10:06the ID program and all of it would be considered.
10:09And that's a lot of shift up and change.
10:11Now, listen, Bruce Prichard can't do this forever.
10:13If you never get the opportunity, check out the Jim Cornette, uh, the Cornette experience,
10:17the drive-through.
10:17He was talking about this the other day that like Bruce Prichard, he's shocked that he still
10:22does what he does.
10:23Um, and that he's surprised he hasn't retired quite a long time ago.
10:27Uh, but it sounds like that is not going to happen right now.
10:30And that that initial report that came out is, is, uh, it's not that it's a hundred percent
10:36inaccurate.
10:36And it's not even that they, the FIFO report disputes the fact that these people that were
10:40mentioned wouldn't necessarily do the things that they had originally, the original report
10:44had claimed.
10:45It's just that they aren't lined up to do that right now.
10:47And it would take a lot of negotiation and conversation at the TKO level before something
10:53like that would happen.
10:54So it sounds like there was a lot of, uh, I don't want to say inflating or, or, or, or
11:01embellishing on the, the details of what was actually going on, but there clearly was some
11:05kind of miscommunication of some kind between whoever was relaying information that that came
11:10out so differently from what it actually is.
11:13In addition, there was a report that came out the other day about Jake, the snake Roberts,
11:18which by the way, to my wonderful listeners, you guys, in the first two days of that going
11:23live, put up like over 550 views of that episode.
11:27I really appreciate you for that.
11:28I know in the grand scheme of YouTube world and things like that, that 550 views might not
11:33seem like a lot to some people, but for a guy who's been doing this for 14 years and
11:37has 117,000 views total, that's a big deal to me.
11:41So thank you for that.
11:42I appreciate you.
11:43Uh, but to update the Jake Roberts situation, it was, it was basically assumed by several
11:50media outlets and I apologize.
11:52I don't have them all written down, um, that he had left AEW, which is accurate.
11:56He left AEW this summer and that he had re-signed with WWE.
12:00Well, new information has come out.
12:02One that even while with AEW, he still had a legends deal with WWE.
12:08Think how unique that is an on-screen talent, AEW, but a legends deal with WWE.
12:14I was not aware of that.
12:15I don't think many people were aware of that.
12:17In addition, he had put out, he put out a video or a statement that what he clarified, what
12:23the conversation was the other day about his WWE situation.
12:26He is not under a contract at WWE.
12:29He may have a legends deal and he talked about going to work for WWE.
12:32The work he does is signing autographs, signing trading cards and figures and things like that.
12:38He likes doing that, going to cons and stuff of that nature, but that's it.
12:43He's not in a creative process.
12:45He's not doing anything backstage.
12:46He's not working remotely to try to help change the face of the product or anything like that.
12:52Again, this is one of those times where I'm starting to get a little frustrated with some
12:56of the websites out there to report this stuff because if you go, I mean, look, I look at
13:01multiple sites every day and I'm always looking for interesting things that people talk about.
13:05Wrestling Observer is always a solid one.
13:08E-Wrestling News, WrestleZone, WrestleTalk News, Cage Side Seats.
13:13They're all pretty solid, but all of them were reporting the same stuff.
13:19When you're somebody like me and you're going to different source material,
13:23I can't be upset when they all say the same thing.
13:26I just wish whoever broke the story to begin with got their story straight because
13:30I don't like having to talk about how inaccurate other people's reporting was
13:34because then by virtue of them being inaccurate, I was inaccurate and I don't like that.
13:38I like to bring you guys the truth, the real stories and not sugarcoat things for
13:43people and not have to print retractions of any kind, even though I'm vocal.
13:48But anyways, so Jake Roberts, Legends deal, probably.
13:53Creative deal, not at all.
13:54Just signing some autographs.
13:56But the most important thing I want to get to tonight, and this to me is something very,
13:59very exciting.
14:01New Japan Pro Wrestling just held their Power Struggle show.
14:05And at that show, several matches have been set for Wrestle Kingdom 21.
14:11And if you are not familiar with New Japan Pro Wrestling's Wrestle Kingdom, you are missing out.
14:17It is the Wrestlemania of New Japan.
14:19And this is where some of the best action, five, six, seven stars if you're Dave Meltzer
14:25level matches have taken place.
14:26And this year is shaping up to be an absolutely colossal pay-per-view.
14:32And what I love about this is, in recent years with Forbidden Door and AEW, AEW's kind of got the
14:39better benefit from their partnership with New Japan Pro Wrestling.
14:45Not only do most of their stars win the crossover matches at Forbidden Door, but more importantly,
14:52whenever talent becomes available, they seem to leave and go to AEW for the most part.
14:56Not everybody, but a lot of them.
14:58And AEW doesn't really give them anything in return.
15:00And it's led to some people being very frustrated with AEW, basically taking and taking and taking
15:06and not giving a whole lot to New Japan.
15:08Well, this year, that's not going to be the case.
15:10Wrestle Kingdom 21 is going to be stacked with AEW superstars.
15:14There was at Power Struggle, there was a tag team match between Will Ospreay and Callum
15:19Newman taking on the Knockout Brothers, which are Udo Ice and Oscar.
15:25And in the match, Callum Newman ends up taking a chair and hitting Oscar, causing a disqualification.
15:32So he and Will Ospreay, they were challenging for the IWGP World Tag Team Championship,
15:36and they get disqualified because of the chair shot to Oscar.
15:40This leads to Callum Newman and Will Ospreay getting into a shoving match.
15:43Now, if you don't know much about these guys, they're both members of the United Empire.
15:46They've been stablemates for years, and now there's dissension, and it ends up coming
15:52to pushing and the slapping and the shoving, and a full-on brawl breaks out, and Akira gets
15:55taken out, and it's obvious where this was headed.
16:00There's a challenge made by Callum Newman to face Will Ospreay at Wrestle Kingdom.
16:05Will Ospreay goes online, and he accepts the challenge.
16:08So we are going to see the two heads of the United Empire go to war at Wrestle Kingdom, and
16:13I can't wait to see it.
16:14I think it's a great match, especially since Will Ospreay is the AEW World Heavyweight Champion.
16:19Now, the only thing I think is necessary and needs to be a part of this match is it needs
16:24to be for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship.
16:28AEW needs to defend their title at Wrestle Kingdom out of respect for the partnership that
16:34they have with New Japan.
16:35Other matches on the card, we got to see Yoda Tsuji is going to be defending at Wrestle
16:42Kingdom the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against former IWGP Champion Kenny Omega.
16:49This match has been building.
16:51Omega won a three-way match to qualify to get this opportunity.
16:55Normally, it goes to the winner of the G1 Climax, but he is involved in another match,
17:00which we'll get to in just a minute.
17:02This is going to be awesome.
17:02So, Yoda Tsuji, the future of New Japan Pro Wrestling, he is their man, he is their go-to
17:07guy, he is their champion, and Kenny Omega, the best match machine, I believe he's preparing
17:14this.
17:14Why he's not on AEW TV since the PAC Tribute Show, he's getting himself ready to have one
17:19of these absolute banger matches that he can put on every now and again.
17:22I get it.
17:23He's getting older, his body's starting to break down, but you know what?
17:26He's going to give it everything he's got for this match to be back in the Tokyo Dome,
17:30and I can't wait to see it.
17:32A couple of New Japan guys, Yo and Sho are going to be facing off.
17:35If Yo wins, loses, I apologize.
17:37If Yo loses, he has to leave New Japan Pro Wrestling.
17:40If Sho loses, he has to leave House of Torture.
17:44Obviously, I believe Sho is losing and going to leave House of Torture because I can't imagine
17:48him letting Yo get away.
17:49He's an incredible talent, somebody they want to keep on the roster.
17:53AEW Superstar, former multi-time world champion, MJF, will be having a battle with Ryoi Owa.
18:00I always pronounce his last name.
18:03Ryoi Owa.
18:05He was the winner of the G1 Climax.
18:07They are going to be facing off at Wrestle Kingdom 21 as well.
18:12Yuya Umi-Nyora is going to be taking on Gabe Kidd for the IWGP Global Championship.
18:17Gabe Kidd is the current IWGP Global Champion despite being an AEW Superstar.
18:22And then the match that I really want to look forward to, there was a tag team match at
18:26Power Struggle.
18:27It was Jon Moxley and Wheeler Yuta against Shingo Takagi and Jeff Cobb.
18:31And Jeff Cobb and Takagi end up winning the match.
18:34And it set the stage for Jon Moxley and Shingo Takagi for the first time in three years.
18:39They will step into the ring at New Japan Pro Wrestling's Wrestle Kingdom 21.
18:43And if you look at the card right now, it is shaping up to be amazing.
18:46Every one of these matches is a singles match.
18:48They always have multi-man matches and tag team matches and things like that.
18:52They have the Never Openweight Six-Man Tag Team Championship.
18:57I'm sure that'll be on the line.
18:59Wrestle Kingdom is always fantastic.
19:02I really do feel like Tony Khan tries to book AEW like classic New Japan Pro Wrestling.
19:08And there is nothing better than a Wrestle Kingdom card.
19:13Like the matches, they're all hard-hitting, Japanese strong style.
19:18It's believable.
19:19It's just incredible.
19:20If you've never seen it, I encourage you, go back.
19:24Watch Wrestle Kingdom 20, 19, 18, 17.
19:26Go back several years.
19:27We've seen a who's who of incredible talent go there.
19:30Andrade, Kenny Omega, AJ Styles, Finn Balor.
19:34They've all been through New Japan Pro Wrestling.
19:37The Good Brothers.
19:38Cody Rhodes.
19:39Jeff Jarrett.
19:40So many have been through there, won championships, been megastars at Wrestle Kingdom.
19:45Go back and watch it if you've never have before.
19:47It is some great, great stuff.
19:49I'm going to throw a shameless plug out there for WSW.
19:52They had their Mega Mania show this past weekend.
19:54If you haven't seen it, the link will be in the description of the show below.
19:59Please click on that because supporting independent wrestling is critically important.
20:04And this show was star-studded and stacked.
20:06It was fantastic, top to bottom.
20:08Main evented by Killer Cross, defending the WSW Championship against Tetsuya Naito, former
20:14New Japan Pro Wrestling Superstar.
20:15Really great card.
20:16Check it out.
20:17But for now, that's all the time we have for this episode.
20:20Check back with us next episode.
20:21We run down the latest wrestling news and rumors.
