00:00On today's Toy Spot, we're going to be looking at the convention-exclusive Justice League Unlimited fan collection, Giganta.
00:21Giganta seemed like a pretty straightforward figure, a very obvious choice.
00:27Those not familiar with a 10-inch, or in this case an 8-inch to 4-3-quarters-inch figure,
00:34most figures tend to be created, and I'll just put this camera up here, most figures tend to be created
00:40in a large-scale figure.
00:43And then what they do for smaller figures, what they tend to do with smaller figures is really they just
00:51take the large mold and they shrink it down.
00:55So it's very easy for most manufacturers to create a smaller scale and a larger scale figure utilizing the exact
01:03same mold.
01:06It does, however, look in this case that Giganta has a different mold, both in the smaller version than to
01:14the larger version.
01:15But we'll get into that as we do the review.
01:18But a very obvious choice, if you ask me, to release this figure.
01:23And if you collected Justice League Unlimited figures, and if you wanted to put together, at least in the case
01:30of the Secret Society,
01:31the one key missing character was Giganta.
01:37And, well, really, to release a pack such as this was, in my opinion, a no-brainer, because then you
01:47could utilize both molds.
01:50Thank goodness, though, it was eventually released as a convention exclusive.
01:55And as you can see, down below, look at the packaging first.
01:59Down below you see a picture of Giganta, fan collection.
02:04Ooh, Giganta's angry there.
02:07And really nice packaging, too.
02:09As you can see, it looks like she's encased in glass, and she's kind of smashed herself through,
02:15or she's trying to smash through the glass here.
02:18And that even carries over at the top here.
02:22You'll also notice it says, open from bottom.
02:25Open from bottom.
02:28The packaging on the back here is a metallic, so the light is playing, is doing some horrible things to
02:38this packaging.
02:39It's burning my eyes.
02:42But the read-up on Giganta says,
02:44Originally a member of Gorilla Grodd's secret society, Giganta gains great strength when she uses her powers to grow to
02:52superhuman size.
02:53When Gorilla Grodd reformed his gang into the Legion of Doom, Giganta followed, becoming a key member in his army
02:59of villains.
03:02Other fan project, or fan collections, coming, which by now have already been released.
03:08We were getting the, what we never thought we'd ever see, we got a Question, a Captain Atom, and a
03:15Galadia figure.
03:19Down below it, you won't probably be able to see it, but down below it shows instructions on how you
03:24can actually set up the diorama.
03:26Very similar, actually, to Lobo.
03:28You can actually take the packaging out and fold it open so that you actually have a standee for the
03:34figure.
03:36So, there you go.
03:38Packaging is aside.
03:40What we'll do is we'll get this opened up, and we will get a better look at Giganta.
03:46So, stay tuned, guys.
03:48There's so much more to come.
03:50I don't even want to spoil the surprise.
03:51You're just, you're going to have to stay tuned.
03:54And, the real shame about this 2-pack was the way that they were actually fastened into the package.
04:01Very hard to get out.
04:03And, I think I actually said this about the Lobo 2-pack, or the Lobo pack as well.
04:09For something where they want you to use the diorama, or the back of the box, or the back of
04:14the card as a diorama,
04:16they sure did a horrible job of putting the figures in.
04:19And, between the clear elastics that were holding these figures, and the actual clear plastic stands and backings,
04:28I ripped most of the package taking these 2 figures out.
04:32So, I won't show you guys the backdrop, unfortunately, for them.
04:36But, I will show you the figures.
04:38And, you'll notice that my hand is here.
04:41And, the reason for it is, this figure will not stand at all.
04:44In fact, neither figure will stand very well at all.
04:49For one thing there, this one doesn't have very much posability to it.
04:53Her legs are very close together, and she's very back heavy.
04:57All those equal a figure that's going to fall over the moment, yeah, see, the moment I let go.
05:03So, this figure is a little easier, but, again, being that she's standing the way that she is, she does
05:12not want to stand.
05:16Needless to say, what we'll do is we'll put the larger Giganta down, and we'll look at the smaller Giganta.
05:26And, the smaller Giganta uses the same mold, I believe, as the same mold as, like, the Huntress.
05:36The Black Canary uses, I think, the lower, most of the torso, except for the bent arm.
05:43But, a very commonly used female mold.
05:48Which is not necessarily a bad thing.
05:49I mean, it doesn't look like they've used the same mold.
05:52I mean, they've obviously applied, you know, a different head, the dress, and everything else, over top.
05:59As well, this dress is a rubbery plastic.
06:02I just touched her boob.
06:04But, it's a rubbery plastic.
06:05They've just really applied it over top of the mold, of the regular female mold.
06:13The head is very nice, actually.
06:16It does look like Giganta.
06:18And, the interesting thing as well, while I commented before, if I can get the camera up here.
06:24What I commented before with the packaging was that, for most part, it seems usually that, you know, bring this
06:31up a bit more.
06:32It seems usually that the, there we go.
06:36That they use the exact same face.
06:40It does look like it's almost the same face.
06:46You know what?
06:46It might be.
06:47I was going to say the chin looks slightly more rounded on the smaller scale figure.
06:54But, at the end of the day, it does look like it's the same mold.
06:57So, they have actually used the exact same mold.
07:00The only difference is, they didn't use different arms, and they put different legs on her.
07:08And, I believe, for the larger 8 inch, they might have almost even used a Wonder Woman body.
07:15And, they just put their rubbery outfit on her.
07:20Putting her back down.
07:22The smaller scale Giganta.
07:25You're going to actually find that I'm moving the camera a lot in this review, unfortunately.
07:29The smaller Giganta.
07:32It's very nicely detailed, nicely sculpted.
07:35She's got really large hair.
07:38So much so that, both on the smaller and on the larger scale Giganta, you're not going to move her
07:45head.
07:45You can move it slightly, but that's it.
07:49She has articulation in the shoulders.
07:52She also has articulation in the legs.
07:54But, you get that same problem that has been plaguing all female molded figures.
08:01It's the way that they sculpt the legs.
08:03You can either have the legs straight out, or you can have them straight.
08:07So, having her sitting in anything makes it next to impossible.
08:12But, that aside, a nice looking figure.
08:15And, what I'll do is, I'll bring in Gorilla Grodd.
08:19Which, I may or may not have done a review of, and posted this before you see this review here.
08:28Put the Gorilla Grodd down.
08:31And, we'll put Giganta next to it.
08:33Not quite to scale to the cartoon.
08:36I believe Giganta was just a slight, slight bit taller, in the cartoon, than Gorilla Grodd.
08:44Certainly, to scale, being that they've used the same mold as the other female bodies, she is smaller.
08:55Not necessarily, it's a bad thing.
08:57But, we'll move Gorilla Grodd out of the way.
08:59We'll move the smaller Giganta out of the way.
09:02And, we'll look at the large Giganta.
09:07And, as I'm corrected by now, it does seem like it is the exact same head sculpt.
09:13And, same problem as well.
09:16You can't really move her head, just because of the way her hair is.
09:19The hair, unlike the Wonder Woman, is not attached to her body.
09:23So, you can move it, but it's not going anywhere, though.
09:27Just because, I mean, the back of her hair is this large, heavy piece of plastic.
09:33It is actually quite heavy, if you had the figure in person.
09:37She also has articulation in the shoulders.
09:42And, she also has articulation in the legs.
09:45Now, being that this figure has slightly different legs, she doesn't quite have the same problem as the smaller Giganta.
09:55But, her legs, I mean, you can get them further back.
10:01But, to bring them forward, she does this weird kind of, as she's showing off her calves.
10:08She's like, hey, look at those calves.
10:12So, I think one of the hardest things to probably go get past, if you're a male collector, is the
10:19fact that this particular figure kind of feels like a Barbie doll.
10:24Certainly, she isn't, and if you've collected the other 8-inch size Justice League figures, then this shouldn't be too
10:29much of a problem.
10:30But, she is fairly rare now, actually, to find on eBay.
10:35And, for when you do find her, she might actually be pretty pricey.
10:41But, well worth picking up.
10:43And, actually, it's well worth picking up if, much like myself, you're trying to put together the teams from the
10:50Justice League cartoon.
10:51And, we've actually been quite blessed that we've received pretty much all the figures from the Secret Society and the
11:01Injustice League.
11:03The only notable figure that's missing, if you were collecting the Secret Society, is Clayface.
11:12We've already received, of course, we've got the Gorilla Grodd, which I'll bring in again.
11:20But, we've got the Gorilla Grodd, we've got Giganta, we've got, I'm trying to think of who else was in
11:27it, Sinestro, we've got Shade.
11:34And, I want to say Star Sapphire, but I think she was only in the Injustice League.
11:41But, yeah, the only one that's really missing from the Secret Society now is Clayface.
11:45You can certainly use the Clayface from the Batman animated series.
11:50It's not really quite, you know, it's not quite dead on.
11:54So, I will say, Mattel, if you're listening, you've already released the characters such as Bane, Harlequin, you've released the
12:02Clock King,
12:02and you've released, I'm trying to remember the fourth character, Scarecrow, you've already released those Gotham villains.
12:13It would be very nice if you could release a Clayface.
12:16Once released a Justice League Unlimited Clayface, we have a full Secret Society.
12:24And, I think that's a fantastic idea.
12:27Let's hope it happens.
12:29Cross your fingers.
12:30If it doesn't, however, well, what we ultimately will be left with is the Clayface from the animated series.
12:38Needless to say, looking at the Giganta, a very nice figure, both the larger and the smaller scale.
12:44It's worth picking up if, again, much like me, you want to fill out the team characters from the animated
12:52series.
12:54It would give this figure a 7, and I would say it's well worth picking up.

13:14Wouldn't you know it, wouldn't you know it, as I was taking apart the packaging,
13:18I did actually find out that they included stands.
13:23They include stands for both the smaller scale Giganta, as well as the larger scale.
13:28For those who have bought this package, and you're probably saying to yourself the same thing,
13:32how come they didn't come with stands?
13:34Check, actually, underneath the cardboard base that these figures were standing on.
13:39There's actually a little clear baggie that featured both bases.
13:43Both bases.
13:44I originally wasn't even going to add this video, but I had a sinking suspicion that somebody was going to
13:51comment down below and say,
13:53Hey man, did you actually know there's bases included in this set?
13:57So, I figured, ha ha, I'll beat you to it.
14:00I would just add this video to the end of the review.
14:04So, yes, in fact, while the Giganta really doesn't stand very well,
14:09the fact that they have included stands certainly resolves that issue.
14:16Still a nice set to pick up, and so much nicer now to know that they've included bases.
