00:00 (upbeat music)
00:03 And now it has to happen with Sam Howell at quarterback,
00:07 a completely unproven commodity,
00:10 who I cannot emphasize this enough,
00:13 was a fifth round pick.
00:18 I know you all watched him at UNC, so did I.
00:22 That doesn't mean that Sam Howell is coming in
00:25 as a heralded prospect that we've all been waiting on,
00:28 no matter how much Washington talks about him like that.
00:31 We do not usually see teams say,
00:33 "We have to give this guy a chance,"
00:36 when they drafted that guy in the fifth round.
00:39 And the kind of forgotten aspect of this all
00:41 is the fact that this is now Eric Biennium's chance,
00:44 supposedly, to prove that he can do it without Andy Reid,
00:48 except he's having to do it with Sam Howell
00:51 and the rest of this Washington team.
00:54 Donny, is there a team that has more question marks
00:57 than the commanders, really,
00:58 when you look at it right now?
01:00 Here's the tough scene too,
01:01 because Eric Biennium, who I thought probably should've just,
01:04 I mean, he just ride the coattails of Andy Reid
01:06 for the next 15 years or however long Andy Reid coaches.
01:08 I know he's now finally getting up there in age.
01:10 What a great position to be in.
01:12 You're always gonna get a top paycheck here.
01:14 You'll be with the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes.
01:15 I understand the fact that he went out
01:17 and goes, "You know what?
01:18 "I'm gonna try to get another position somewhere else
01:20 "and try to apply my craft."
01:22 But here's the tough part about it, Kevin.
01:23 You have an ownership change, right?
01:25 Which you say, "Well, that really
01:26 "shouldn't affect the field."
01:27 It does.
01:28 That's what we know about owners.
01:29 They come in, they reevaluate,
01:30 they want their own guys in place.
01:32 General managers, front office presidents,
01:35 head coaches as well.
01:36 And Ron Rivera, who's probably at the end of the string,
01:38 made a ton of money and did have some success
01:40 being a head coach.
01:41 Let's be honest with ourselves.
01:42 Once again, like we talk about Bill Belichick,
01:44 who has much, much more of a pedigree than Ron Rivera,
01:47 there's no expectations for this season here.
01:48 It feels to me like it's an evaluation period
01:50 on the quarterback and the head coach.
01:52 And where does that leave Eric Biennium
01:54 at the end of the season?
01:55 Because I think we could both possibly say,
01:56 or probably say, that we don't think
01:58 this commander's team is going anywhere this year,
02:00 which means Ron Rivera will probably be out.
02:03 Does that mean if they go,
02:04 and again, I don't know what the number's gonna be.
02:06 Let's just go five and 12.
02:07 Does that say, "Oh, you know what?
02:08 "Hey, good, Rivera's out.
02:10 "We're just gonna make Eric Biennium be the head coach
02:11 "after a five-win season at this point."
02:13 If they do have a good season,
02:15 are they getting rid of Ron Rivera
02:16 if they make the playoffs?
02:17 No, they're not.
02:18 And also, Biennium's not coming from a quarterback position
02:21 that's stable and ready to go and just needs a revamping.
02:24 He's got some talent, but he's got Sam Howe.
02:26 It's such a, and I do feel bad a little bit for him
02:29 because for a guy that's finally gonna step out on his own,
02:32 it wasn't like one of those hand-picked positions,
02:34 like, "Hey, man, come in here."
02:35 Like, if you went to the Chargers, right?
02:36 He goes, "Man, look at what you got to work with
02:38 "with a young quarterback.
02:39 "He could probably do a lot of damage."
02:41 If he set up the fail here and people go,
02:43 "Oh, look, Eric Biennium really can't coach.
02:45 "Is that fair?
02:46 "They're not supposed to do anything."
02:48 And if they don't, it's not Eric Biennium's fault.
