00:00 [MUSIC PLAYING]
00:03 OK, so the FIBA World Cup is coming.
00:05 And this is, again, another event you can bet on.
00:07 BetMGM are some of the odds we're
00:09 going to take a look at here as far as who could potentially
00:11 win this.
00:12 I know there's been a lot of players
00:14 who have dropped out of it.
00:15 And I think probably the USA would be a much bigger
00:18 favorite had their top players all be playing in this thing.
00:21 They're minus 120.
00:22 France is 7 to 1.
00:24 Canada, interesting, at 10 to 1.
00:26 And then Australia is 10 to 1 as well.
00:29 So I know we're going to dive a little bit deeper into this.
00:32 And I think the one great thing about legal sports betting
00:35 right now, Sam, is the fact that so many of these things
00:37 are being offered by MGM, as we're talking about here,
00:42 and I'm sure the other sports books as well.
00:44 What do you make of the odds as they appear here?
00:47 And in addition to that, I know we're
00:49 going to dive into which way the money is going, essentially.
00:52 Most bet tickets, most money on the FIBA World Cup.
00:57 Right, yeah.
00:57 Essentially, USA is always the heavy favorite
01:01 to win any kind of international tournament,
01:04 usually regardless of who they have on their roster.
01:07 In years past, you haven't had as many all-stars
01:10 wanting to join in.
01:11 This year, it's sort of a newer crop
01:13 of young talent, which is why you're seeing them only
01:16 as a minus 120 favorite.
01:18 And while the best USA players have kind of dropped out,
01:22 have been more hesitant to join, you
01:24 have other countries emerging as just having better
01:27 NBA players in general.
01:28 Canada has Shea Gilgus-Alexander,
01:31 who scored like 30 points a game this year.
01:33 Jamal Murray, who-- he was one of the best players
01:37 on a championship team this year.
01:38 RJ Barrett.
01:40 And then Slovenia, you see there with some betting action.
01:43 They have Luka Doncic, who is one of the best
01:45 international players ever.
01:48 Now, this is a very different game than the American NBA,
01:53 but I think Steve Kerr and Eric Spolstra
01:56 have done a good job kind of putting this roster together.
01:59 The most interesting thing that stands out to me
02:01 that you see right there on your screen
02:02 is Canada is actually the most popular team to bet on.
02:06 I don't know in years past if that would have been the case,
02:09 but they're plus 1,000.
02:11 So that kind of tells you that there's a lot better return
02:15 if you bet on Canada.
02:16 They're kind of the sneaky favorite, the third or second
02:20 best-priced team based on whatever sportsbook
02:22 you're looking at.
02:23 But then 85% of the money is on USA.
02:27 And together, they represent about 96%
02:28 of the money in the market.
02:29 So even though almost every dollar is essentially on USA,
02:33 it would actually be a good outcome
02:35 for USA to win versus Canada just because of the payout
02:38 difference.
02:39 Now, the World Cup starts in a few days.
02:42 Team USA has been a juggernaut by no means.
02:47 It really has had a hard time kind of destroying teams
02:51 like it has in the past in the Olympics.
02:53 But they've shown some promising play as of late,
02:57 which I think still hold them as the minus 120 favorite.
02:59 And if there wasn't that 85% of money coming in on them,
03:03 we might see them at much better odds.
03:05 But I think the biggest thing to note here
03:07 is the fact that the best outcome for the sportsbooks
03:09 is Team USA--
03:11 or is Team Canada not winning, not Team USA.
03:13 So it kind of shows that maybe we're
03:14 at a different time in international basketball
03:17 and American basketball in general.
03:18 But either way, it should be a really fun tournament
03:20 to watch, great tournament to bet on.
03:22 And it'll be really interesting to see what happens
03:24 with all the highly bet teams.
