00:14Welcome. Can you present the mission of APUA? APUA has been created in 1970 by the
00:23power utility in Africa with the mission to bring together the power utility, the operators
00:33and stakeholders to make the power, the electricity available for people of Africa. Meaning people
00:44of Africa, meaning their life and development. Meaning development, meaning economic life.
00:52That's the mission of APUA since our 50th year. So we celebrated the 50th anniversary during
01:04our 20th Congress in Dakar in July this year.
01:09You've known SIGRE for a long time now. What is the importance of this relation between APUA
01:16and SIGRE?
01:17I forgot to mention that APUA is an organization in Africa with a specialized organization to
01:26the African Union Commission and have a partnership with the African Development Bank and NEPAD.
01:33And in the external world out of Africa, we have privileged partners. Among them, SIGRE for
01:44a long time now. Because SIGRE has 100 years, we have 50. So since the creation, we have been
01:50working with SIGRE because the electrification of Africa has two components. Electricity and
01:58powerful industries. With this, we have to rely on large networks where we are also developing
02:07isolated systems and solar and other renewable components. So for the large network, we are
02:16working with SIGRE to make our transmission companies, our large producers rely on up-to-date technology.
02:26Where you can fund it? Where you have research people. Research people within SIGRE. So now we
02:32are working to develop the African, I mean, component of SIGRE to have more engineers, new engineers
02:43interested in research to work with the technical committee in SIGRE to make Africa be present in
02:51the research for the new technology improving. So I can guess that being here in Paris is really
02:57important for you. Yes, because we have many contacts to make. We have discussion ongoing and we are here.
03:04We came with many CEOs to be able to see the startup in Europe and in the world, the progress
03:11that
03:12had been made in our sector because now we are focusing on smart grid and smart grid have a very
03:19huge need of cyber security. So that would be our topics in the coming three years before our next
