00:00To me, the Shador Sanders press conference, I had to ask him.
00:03I didn't realize it would just take off for the rest of the interview.
00:05To me, it's old news.
00:06Yeah, it's old news.
00:08I've only brought it up.
00:09Well, then why did it dominate the interview?
00:10I had way more to ask about Jared Verse.
00:12I had way more to ask about that than I had about anything.
00:15Okay, so Shador wasn't very – he didn't want to work well with the media on Wednesday.
00:21All right, I got to – he's – if he goes out there and he plays well,
00:25there ain't nothing you can do about it.
00:26If he goes out there and he plays poorly, like, yeah, the media's going to pile on.
00:28That's what the media does.
00:30But I got Jared Verse saying, yeah, my teammates wouldn't fight for me.
00:33And, yeah, the reason I don't have sacks is because of something that he perceives,
00:37which isn't actually true.
00:39And I'm like, man, like, I got one guy who's literally in a job interview on Sunday.
00:44The other guy, you have made a massive investment in.
00:47The other guy, you wanted him to be a leader.
00:50He is not showing proper leadership.
00:53The other guy, you traded the greatest defensive player in franchise history for.
00:59Let's not be distracted just because one guy plays quarterback.
01:05Ah, man, was I annoyed by you two.
01:08Sorry.
01:09Now the line is not talking to me.
01:11No, I mean, I agree.
01:13We're talking about two different things.
01:15One thing matters for this team right now this week.
01:18Another thing matters for that player and his career aspirations.
01:24I think both are big stories.
01:25Shador is tremendously popular.
01:27And we got a lot of people that don't care about the Browns that are listening to us.
01:30They only care about Shador Sanders.
01:32And that's the problem is I don't care.
01:33I don't care if they care about Shador Sanders and that's it.
01:35I care about the Cleveland Browns because that's who is – in the grand scheme of things, that's who butters
01:40our bread.
01:40So I want him to play well for the Cleveland Browns.
01:42If he's no longer playing for the Cleveland Browns at the end of the year or, I mean, going into
01:472027, then I really don't care.
01:48I wish him well, but I don't care anymore.
01:51I care about the guy that we just traded picks for, or we just traded Miles Garrett for, showing up
01:58and playing well for the team, that our base listeners, our base people who care about this show and care
02:05about that team, that's who they really care about.
02:08They care about the Browns winning.
02:09I do not care about anybody else.
02:14Damn.
02:17Again, man, like, if Shador – like, think about it.
02:20If they fail, if each of them fail, if one does well, if Shador does well, I'll grant you, you
02:25and Darryl are right.
02:27If Shador does well, he is the focal point of everything because then we're talking about him for the rest
02:31of the season.
02:32If he continues to do well, then we're talking about making him a franchise quarterback.
02:36That would be wonderful.
02:37Then I would give a damn about all the other people that are involved who are Shador fans who are
02:42listening.
02:43But this is a job interview on Sunday.
02:46And if you do well, we might talk about you playing again next Sunday and maybe even over the guy
02:51that might be old news who they've already given all that money to.
02:55But in the grand scheme of things, if either of them do poorly, if Shador does poorly, he is another
03:01footnote on a jersey.
03:03He really is.
03:06He's another footnote on a jersey that 10 years from now we'll go, man, remember that?
03:10That was a wild time.
03:12But if Jared Verse doesn't do well, guys – like, he traded the cornerstone of the franchise.
03:21And one of the selling points was leadership.
03:25And now Carson Swester has to answer questions about it.
03:28And Quincy Williams has to answer questions about it.
03:31And Denzel and everybody else, they've got to answer questions about it.
03:36It is – nine times out of ten, quarterback's going to be a bigger issue.
03:41Quarterback's a bigger issue.
03:43I think you have lost the forest for the trees here, man.
03:46Jared Verse is the bigger issue to me.
03:49And he should be to you.
03:51This is a guy that no matter what we say today, tomorrow, he's going to be – they're going to
03:57pick up his fifth-year option.
03:58And they're going to sign him to a great big damn contract.
04:02And then if he continues to not produce for this football team, I'm still like, hey, it's bad.
04:09Let's get this figured out.
04:10Let's get going.
04:11Let's see if we can get him schemed up and get going here.
04:14But, man, there's a lot of people.
04:15They've already taken the gloves off.
04:16We traded Miles Garrett for what?
04:18I know.
04:19For him?
04:19It's only eight games.
04:20And, in a sense, that is still a small sample, even in the NFL.
04:26Like, it's just half a year where, you know, there are times when guys have issues.
04:30Sometimes it's an injury, although we haven't really heard much until recently about a Jared Verse injury.
04:37So, I'm not losing my mind and saying this is the end.
04:40And there's, like, no rush to have to make a decision on him and his contract today.
04:44But, you do want to see some semblance of the guy that the NFL was gushing over.
04:48And we haven't seen any of that.
04:49And so, that's when you start to wonder, accompanied by all the things he's saying,
04:54and now you have a very public show of maybe some cracks over there on the defense after a blowout
05:04loss
05:04where he's not thrilled with his teammates and who knows how they feel about him
05:08and then him not being able to back up all the stuff he did when there were some people at
05:11the station
05:12that absolutely loved that he was talking all the smack in the world in the lead-up to the game.
05:16I do wonder, is there a chance that this just, the chemistry,
05:22sometimes there's just something that doesn't click.
05:25You know what it is.
05:26You know whether it's you buy a new car and you're excited about it
05:30and then there's something that doesn't sit right.
05:32Whether it's anything, whether it's a relationship.
05:34And then you try to talk yourself out of it like I am.
05:36And yeah, yeah, you wonder.
05:37And it's still too early.
05:38Like, the good thing is we're blessed with more games.
05:40And I've seen people say, trade him before the trade-up.
05:42That's not happening.
05:43So we can put that to rest.
05:45Trade who?
05:45Shared verse.
05:46And it's like, well, his value's gone down.
05:48Why would you trade him now?
05:49But that's not going to happen.
05:51So the good news is we're blessed with more games.
05:54And you feel like a good football player at some point is going to do good football things.
05:58I thought you were going to, I really thought you were going to start hammering me on some things here.
06:03I love your new car analogy.
06:06Because I'm definitely, you have been, you've known me for a long time.
06:09I definitely get that way with new vehicles.
06:12And even the other one, I had range anxiety.
06:14You put it under more scrutiny.
06:15Yes.
06:16Oh, God.
06:16Because I'm like, what's that tick?
06:17I didn't hear that tick on the test drive.
06:19What's going on here?
06:20Why is that going on?
06:21And so I'm going to do that with a football player.
06:25And I eventually get comfortable.
06:27And thank God.
06:28Well, I actually have had one lemon in my life.
06:30But, you know, I don't want Jared Verse to become that lemon.
06:35I've heard great reviews.
06:37Car and Driver says Jared Verse is a great player.
06:41One of the cars of the year, JD Power & Associates, has ranked Jared Verse in top quality.
06:46And I'm sitting there going, what the F is going on here, man?
06:49What are we doing?
06:50Did we get the car facts on that?
06:51I don't know if we did.
06:53Was this a flood car?
06:55Like, what the hell?
06:57I'm just way more concerned about Jared because I'm thinking the now and the future.
07:03Shador Sanders, God bless him.
07:05If he does well on Sunday, we'll open up that conversation.
07:08And I really hope he does.
07:10I won't pray for it because it's pro sports.
07:12But I really hope he does.
07:14But when it comes to Jared Verse, I'm like, man, this is a much bigger issue, man.
07:19Because if he doesn't work out, it's same old sorry-ass Browns to a lot of people out there.
07:25Outside of Browns fans.
07:27And that we traded away the player of the generation for, as of right now, this.
07:32Whatever this is.
07:33And it's like, it's got to change.
07:35It's got to change.
07:36And it has to start soon.
07:39216-474-0092.
07:41Daryl was great.
07:42He'll be up at 92.3thefan.com very soon.
07:45Nathan Zagura, Browns radio analyst.
07:47Now, we'll talk about Sunday.
07:48I also want to go around the league because you know who we just got done talking about?
07:51Miles Garrett.
07:52Is he playing on Sunday against Washington?
07:55How close are we paying attention to that?
07:57I think they're in the same time slot.
07:59Ken Carman, Anthony Lima, Nathan Zagura at 9 o'clock.
08:02Coming in hot.
08:039.45 on the fan.
