00:00 Welcome to your evening updates from the Met Office.
00:02 It's been a pretty mild week, certainly in the South,
00:05 but it is changing.
00:06 It's going to turn quite a bit chillier
00:08 over the next couple of days.
00:09 And the reason for that's a cold front
00:11 tied into a big area of low pressure
00:13 just clearing away from Iceland.
00:15 But for us, it's all about this weather front
00:17 trickling its way southwards, introducing the colder air,
00:20 as well as bringing some cloud and outbreaks of rain.
00:23 If we rewind the clock,
00:24 we can put the temperature profile on
00:27 and see how that colder air
00:28 has already pushed into the far northwest of Scotland.
00:31 And as the cold front sinks its way slowly southwards,
00:34 it will be ushering away the milder air
00:37 and that chillier feel will be spreading south,
00:39 accompanied by strengthening winds
00:40 getting very gusty through the night
00:42 and during Friday across Northern Scotland,
00:44 accentuating that colder feel.
00:48 Okay, let's again come back to Thursday evening
00:51 and see where that weather front is
00:53 because it's not just bringing the colder air,
00:54 it is being cloud and rain to Southern Scotland
00:56 and Northern Ireland, but that's trickling southwards.
00:58 So turning drier here and turning wetter
01:00 across Northern England, Wales, and by morning time
01:04 into parts of the Midlands and Southwest England.
01:06 Ahead of it, staying largely dry
01:07 and of course still staying mild as well.
01:10 And cold front introducing the colder air,
01:13 but not especially cold in terms of the numbers
01:16 because that strengthening wind
01:18 should help to stop too much frost.
01:20 Still pretty cold though and feeling cold
01:22 with that strong wind across Northern Scotland.
01:25 Onto the details for Friday,
01:27 a very different day then across South Wales,
01:29 the Midlands, Southwest England starts dull and damp
01:31 and that rain will trickle into East Anglia and the Southeast.
01:35 Could be some heavier bursts,
01:36 but most of it will be fairly light and drizzly,
01:38 but a very different day nonetheless.
01:40 And it takes most of the day before it shimmies away,
01:43 lingering in Kent in particular, well into the afternoon.
01:46 As it clears though, look at that, brighter skies.
01:49 Most of us will see some spring sunshine,
01:51 but there will also be some showers.
01:53 Wales, Northwest England, lots of showers for Scotland
01:56 and Northern Ireland through the day.
01:58 They'll be blowing in on that stiff wind,
02:00 which will be very lively across Northern Scotland
02:03 in particular and with the colder air,
02:04 yes, there will be some snow on the tops of the hills
02:07 mixed in with those showers.
02:09 Hail and thunder is possible as well.
02:11 Temperatures down on where they have been through this week,
02:13 actually probably not too far off average,
02:15 but feeling colder,
02:17 particularly with that wind across Scotland
02:19 and Northern Ireland.
02:20 As we go through Friday afternoon,
02:22 that rain should finally scoot away from Kent
02:25 and then generally clear skies over the Midlands
02:27 and Eastern England during Friday evening.
02:29 Plenty more showers though packing into the West,
02:31 particularly Western Scotland and Northern Ireland.
02:34 Still some further snow on the hills
02:36 and those showers will be heavy
02:37 and that's how we go into the weekend.
02:39 More showers to come.
02:41 Parts of the Midlands, Eastern England,
02:42 much of the South will have a dry and bright start to Saturday,
02:46 but it won't last.
02:47 The clouds will bubble up and then it's a showery day.
02:50 Heavy showers moving in, further thunderstorms possible.
02:54 Don't be surprised if you don't see a little bit of hail
02:56 in those showers also.
02:58 They'll be moving through on a brisk wind,
03:00 so a mixture of sunshine one minute, it's fine.
03:03 The next minute you've caught a downpour.
03:05 Temperatures will be lower,
03:06 certainly lower than they have been for most of this week.
03:08 Single digits for many and again,
03:10 feeling colder with the wind,
03:12 particularly in Northern Scotland,
03:13 but also for Northern Ireland
03:14 and a chilly feel with that wind across Wales also.
03:18 These are the temperatures for Friday
03:20 when compared to average.
03:21 So yes, it's turning colder on Friday,
03:23 but temperatures not far off average.
03:26 On Saturday, you'll notice even more of those blue shadings,
03:29 suggesting temperatures between three
03:31 and six degrees below average.
03:33 So perhaps feeling colder still on Saturday
03:35 compared to Friday.
03:37 Not especially cold for the time of year,
03:39 but because it's been mild,
03:40 you will notice that dip into the weekend.
03:44 Sunday does look drier and brighter for most of us.
