00:00it is a victory monday and uh that means it's time to head out to the wise heart right we
00:04make
00:04it right call kyle wright hotline and welcome on browns analyst for 92 through the fan and
00:09cleveland.com lance risland who joins us now coach welcome back to the show what's going on guys
00:15happy victory monday it uh it is better on mondays when the browns win and we're getting
00:20used to the winning here who was the browns mvp yesterday for you oh this one's easy it's the
00:28line uh it's when you have when you guys are talking about judkins and you're talking about
00:32watson and casey conception those things all happen because your offensive line is playing better now
00:37they're still a work in progress but they did some things yesterday simplified a little bit took
00:41allowed them to block down a little bit and not not so many double teams let them run off the
00:45football
00:46uh but yeah i think a lot of success now everybody has their hand in both failure and uh you
00:52know
00:52success but that offensive line sets the tone so i thought they played really really well i thought
00:57they had they got beat a couple times but you're not seeing run-throughs you're not seeing complete
01:01whiffs or uh missed assignments sometimes you get beat uh with me all the success those skill guys had
01:06it all started because those guys up front all right coach take us through the deshaun watson interception
01:11and whether or not you agree with uh well obviously deshaun's accounting of it's uh also the broadcast
01:16accounting of it that this was in fact on denzel boston and not on deshaun watson oh yeah it is
01:21on boston
01:22and here's the reason why is because when you so they started off they were two by two uh judkins
01:27well first of all they tried to stack the coverage there to try to make it look like cover two
01:32or too
01:32high safety but the linebacker was inside and the safety was over so he kind of told them man coverage
01:38anyway and then judkins goes in motion as he goes in motion the linebacker clears it so there's no one
01:43left so on the back side you have double slant and as watson's key is the nickelback who was over
01:50top of
01:50wallace who was inside and when wallace runs inside and cover you know when wallace goes inside the
01:55nickelback runs with him boston's got to stay flat and you know if you see it where he crosses his
02:01face where he comes in front of boston boston's got to be inside of him uh so the db either
02:07have
02:07to go through him or it's a pass interference but the worst thing you get is an incompletion so yeah
02:12boston comes off his route he tries to go behind it if you see it kind of we always talk
02:16about going
02:17back door you can't go back door there you got to stay front so a guy can't cross your face
02:20uh that was all on boston and when you know we'll talk about the speed of the nfl game once
02:25that
02:25nickelback turns his hips towards watson that ball's coming out so uh again just a learning a learning
02:31curve and boston knows next time he's got to stay in front that guy will probably interfere with him
02:35all right coach uh the the offense obviously taking a huge step forward uh i do want to know i
02:42mean we we
02:43heard a lot about this is the most they've been in their center all season long how much of that
02:48do you attribute the success of the offense and certainly the run game with quenchon's best game
02:52of the season well you know they did a lot of cool things yesterday so they're doing point of
02:57attack runs so power counter that yeah it's traditional like we're going to run the ball
03:00right at you we're tougher than you but they're also being creative in their run game that you know
03:04the touchdown run uh that was a two option read you can run zone or you can have a bluff
03:09where
03:10uh watson takes it with a lead blocker fan and out uh out to the outside which was a touch
03:14the
03:14touchdown run then they had a bash which bash means their uh quarterback is running a run play
03:20one way and if the end squeezes you give it to whoever kc judkins around the end so it becomes
03:26a jet sweep so they're doing a lot of like we're going to continuously work on our point point of
03:30attack run game but we're also going to be creative in what we do um so yeah i for me
03:35i just think the
03:36offense as a whole um was much better uh being underneath center i think that it allows him to get
03:43downhill it seems like he has a little bit better feel um when he takes those first three steps and
03:48seeing what he is uh but the offensive line was better so once again you know it's hard to decide
03:54you know everybody's putting this on judkins i just thought he had space to run and does uh kind of
03:58did
03:58what he normally does and uh he's not a guy who has super supervision but again so you know if
04:04watson
04:05likes the gun a little bit more and you know he runs better maybe a little bit more pistol because
04:09then
04:10you can get downhill still but still be in the shotgun so we'll see what happens moving forward
04:13but yeah they were underneath center and i think it obviously his vision everybody's different but
04:18his vision seems to be very very good when he's running for you know when he's dotting the eye at
04:22seven yards yards after catch were huge uh concepcion was great at it fannin was great at it between the
04:27two of them uh what did you notice in standing out for what can be repeatable for weeks moving forward
04:33well here's the thing that they're doing too is that they're they're taking advantage of
04:37the matchup so you talk about the slow starts they're getting on both sides of all because it's
04:40a matchup kind of philosophy this offensive staff has so this run after catch uh it's very sustainable
04:46because a lot of them are built in so if you think about the one time uh where whiteheart motions
04:51out
04:51and he motions out to this outside the corner picks him up that's an immediate tell for watson that i
04:56got conception on a linebacker he takes it now he only throws it five yards and people will say well
05:01he only threw it five yards but it was the recognition of whiteheart moving out told him zone because the
05:06corner stayed with him if it was man the linebacker wouldn't win with him or the safety and then you
05:11get that little you get that little five yard hitch by three strong and then conception uh you know gets
05:16crazy after uh he catches it and runs upfield so i just think it's very sustainable because there a lot
05:22of them are short passes built in with runs and built in where there's motions kind of giving that
05:27quarterback a clear picture of what he's seeing and all the motions they're doing you know that's what it
05:33does for you those motions create advantages in the run game for the offensive lineman with the
05:37angles but it creates a clear picture for the quarterback so those passes that they're getting
05:42those things in the flat you and i were talking about on sunday you know play action fanning in
05:46the flat uh fanning at the second level and when you look at you know my favorite play was i
05:51think
05:51it was second down and 11 he catches a six yard hitch and gets a first down those are stress
05:55-free
05:56kind of things for a quarterback throw a hitch let your guy get sick so yeah i think this is
06:00very
06:00sustainable figure out ways to get them touches let it let them do their work because they prove
06:04uh consistently they they can run with it uh when they get the ball in their hands all right coach
06:09the titans offense scores uh touchdown on the first two drives of the game and then we saw the defense
06:16kind of mellow out what was going on defensively that allowed the titans to get those first two scores
06:23well again we talk about uh complementary football right you turn the ball over that's what happens
06:27right so second touchdown you turn the ball over the first drive it's kind of you know it's interesting
06:31watching so they scored on dart which is a run play they have not see uh the browns have not
06:36seen
06:36the titans pull the backside tackle and what ends up happening is that for some reason the browns are in
06:42base and when they're in base these guys like to slant angle so actually on the touchdown run for
06:47example uh huntington slants inside and when you slant inside because he plays so hard he actually
06:53loses his gap control he loses gap integrity so the linebackers because he's going crazy the center
06:59gets to swessinger and the backside tackle gets to quincy williams and then you just have no one left
07:05and then they kind of figure out what teams are doing they adjust the front and they adjust so
07:10they've struggled they've given up five touchdowns on early drives but for me it's very similar to what
07:14the offense is trying to do figure out what the offense is trying to give them and you're going to
07:19get
07:19trapped and you're going to get some of the things that they give up you're going to do that in
07:22a
07:22pressure front again for me it's the idea of it's you know obviously it happens early but then
07:29they're locking in and for me that tells you they're making adjustments on what they're seeing
07:32and how how they're being blocked and the angles they're taking and are they bringing receivers and
07:37all the stuff we talk about i just think early on uh they're feeling it out and the other you
07:41know
07:41that's credit goes to the other staff right because you've seen a lot of coaches who are really good on
07:45that initial uh you know initial drive that's because they've studied film all week and they know what
07:50they're going to get and that's up to rutenberg to adjust and he seems to do a very good job
07:54of it
07:54coach great stuff as always buddy we'll catch up with you next week absolutely guys we'll talk soon
08:00coach lance risland there on the wise heart right we make it right call kyle wright hotline
